I am hearing a vibration sound from my 05GT when I accelerate through the 2800 - 3000 rpm range. The sound is sort of like a sloppy AC belt engaging, however this occurs when I have the AC AND the climate control in the OFF position.

I can hear it in 1st and 2nd gears. In 3rd, etc, the wind noise is too loud to hear it. Note the it DOES NOT occur when I blip the throttle through that range. It only occurs when the car is pulling through the gears. Also, it seems like it does this when the car is cold.

What's causing this and what's the cure?

I have this problem as well. First service I am taking the shop foreman out for a ride, as you can only hear it under mild accleration with very little throttle. I have managed to maintain the noise for about 15 secs, and it sounds like a slapping metallic noise. Only at 2800-2900 RPM. I'll post when I get it in on what the dealer says.

If it's a manual (I don't know about autos) it could be the inspection plate. Ford left out 2 bolts (10mm x 3/4"). You could try getting those at home depot.

That must have been the problem with mine. I'd taken it in as I'd here a loud rattle sound upon 1st cold startup. It would disappear shortly upon engine warmup. Dealer said there were 2 shield bolts missing on the trans. I thought they were talking heat shields but had seen none attached to the trans. It's all good now though.

i got this problem too. hear it best in 3rd or 4th gear, cuz the exhaust is a little quieter. it is under accel. around 2500 rpm. the dealer told me it is normal, after they thought it was exhaust noise it is getting worse now, almost 11,000 miles. louder, and more noticable....or maybe i try to hear it much more now!!!

Dealer inserted the 2 missing tranny bolts and this cured the rattling diesel engine noise, but the 2800 rpm metallic rattle is there. Its funny, but I don't recall this noise BEFORE the tranny bolts were inserted. I'm still seeking the cause and solution. Sounds like to loose heat shield on my old Honda.
