On my 302 for some reason my mechanic bought a 289 edelbrock performer intake mani.

My engine is leakin water into the oil and motor.

Could this be the problem? The water holes arn't lining up and leaking through the mani?

Thanks,
Joe

Nope, 289 and 302's share many, many parts, the intake being one of them.

you need to run a thin layer of weatherstrip adhesive around the water ports. silicone is nono, dont want that getting into your pickup.

well you also have to consider how many times the block and heads have been rebuilt. If they have been machined a few times and stock intake won't fit right unless its cut too. For my intakes I put a fat bead of silicone front and back on the block and then run a thin layer up the heads and around the water ports and then put the gaskets on top. I never had a leak problem.

I had a 289 performer on my 302 with no problems. I now have 351 heads on it and with 351 heads you have to plug the extra intake manifold bolt that the 302 doesn't use or it will dump water into the lifter valley. Just a though. What heads are on your motor?

Do a search on intake manifold gaskets and you will find a few threads that might help. It could be a gasket issue. It appears some 302s used different gaskets.

If your heads are pre-1976 you need to use the older gaskets. the 76 and up gaskets almost fit, but not quite. It's been a common problem popping up here the past month or so. I've made the mistake myself.
