289 or 302 ?

oh ok...well with the 65 #'s it's probably a 289 but it could be a 302 if it's ever been opened up and had a 302 crank put in there. we did that on our '67 convertible. it was a c-code 289, dropped a 302 crank in there, and voila, we have a 302

If the crank is stamped 1M then 289, 2M is a 302. C3 rods are 289 rods, c8 rods for the 302. could be either if it was rebuilt. could even have a 289 crank with 302 rods. just look for the stamp on the first crank counter weight.

According to the High Performance Ford Parts Interchange book, the C5AE-E could be either, but these books are known for their mistakes, The best way to Id a Hi-po block for sure is to look at the main caps. They're thicker than the std caps from top to bottom.
