2nd gear troubles?

Hey guys. I've got a little problem lately. My car's response seems to be below average lately. When I give it some gas (say, 1/4 to 1/2 a pedal or so on take-off), it will go through first fine, but then when it shifts into 2nd, it will sit still almost at the same RPM's for about 1/2 a second, then it will suddenly jump, like it is just getting the message to take off.

This is a hard problem to describe. It's kind of like, instead of the car climbing steadily through the RPM range, it sticks in second right after it shifts into it, then it jumps. I am holding the gas pedal in the same place, and the car does all this stuff on its own. It's like something is screwing with my response, or something.

A friend of mine drove it and listened to it when I drove it, and he said he thinks is could possibly be the transmission. I was thinking engine, but I don't know that much. I would be much more likely to trust what he says than what I think.

So what do you guys think? Sorry I can't describe the problem any better. :(

By the way, my car is an auto!

no responses. must be a tough one.

After paying more attention to the car, I have noticed that it doesn't shift what I would call 'smoothly' at all, really. It's as if every gear has a hesitation to it, right after it first shifts into the next gear. Plus, it goes through third really quick. A little too quick, I tend to think.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
