Hello to alll.. here is the situation i have a 89 gt with a vortech v3 at about 5-6 psi of boost i blew a head gasket due to coolant issues about a month a go i pulled the heads they went to the machine shop for treatment and swapped the gaskets out all was good for about 3 weeks noticed coolant in oil, rough idle so again i pulled the heads:mad: and swapped the gaskets i noticed the head gasket were in great shape(9333pt1)i installed new gaskets sat may 15th.. i changed the oil twice sun the 17th so yesterday driving to work mon 17th i have the same symptoms i started with.. in the process of elimination i called arp to confirm my torque specs and i was informed TEFLON TAPE IS NOT A PROPER SEALANT FOR LOWER HEAD BOLTS:nono: so... with all that being said my question is the new head gasket is a day old but my coolant has contaminated my oil would i be able to pull the lower bolts one at a time properly seal them and re torque them or am i pulling the heads again? thanks for any insight....

Just pull the heads and do it right, and i hate to be the bearer of bad news but i would guess your bearings are completely comtaminated. I ran my car for a very short period of time with antifreeze in the oil(im talking like around the block twice) and my bearings showed slight contamination on them

I hope you aren't under the impression that if the wrong sealant is used on the lower head bolts it will let coolant into the oil. Coolant will leak from around the bottom edge of the heads, but not get in the oil.

So if you need to seal the head bolts... do it, but it wont solve your problem of oil and coolant mixing.

Instead, you may have an intake gasket problem or the heads are really warped and need milled

ok thats what i was looking for..when i phoned arp he lead me to believe that not properly sealing the lower bolts would put coolant in my oil.. now the first time i did the heads i had them cleaned and resurfaced decked and honed presure tested and i still ended up with coolant in my oil.. the car had not over heated since then so the second time i just replaced the gaskets and put it back together... i did just do a timing chain cover could it leak internally?

sorry i dont have any pics however the initial blown head gasket had a crimp in the fire ring but it barely leaked coolant and that was over several months that replacement lasted about three weeks and when i took it off it looked new i tried to find a place on it that would allow this much coolant into the oil. the one i changed on saturday it drove great sunday and as soon as i got on the highway monday after about 20 miles i knew i had a problem...as for intake gasket im using a 93 cobra set......im leaning toward a intake issue i noticed oil leaking around the front driverside head around the intake i dont see how oil could seep out of a head gasket

yeah i used felpro....i made sure the side that goes toward the head was on the head ...does anybody know of a metal tab that went in the side pieces of the intake gaskets i keep thinkin that has something to do with this..

You know...the last two times i did the intake gaskets i put them on basically dry i sprayed them with cooper the second time but no rtv except were the rubber pieces meet the side could no rtv cause this?
