Hello,

I was wondering how the Saleen Series V supercharger compares to the Kenne Bell 2.2 L, for 2V Stangs.

They are both twin screws, and they are approximately the same size.

One thing I like about the Saleen Series V is that, theoretically, it seems like it should be 50-state legal for a 2V, because it is OEM equipment for the Saleen S-281-E, which is a 2V. The Kenne Bell 2.2, on the other hand, is not 50-state legal for a 2V. Does anyone know if the Series V is 50-state legal for a 2V?

I have heard that the 2V Saleen Series IV (1.6 L) was not as good as the KB 1.7, because of the restrictive intake. However, I was wondering if they fixed that issue in the Series V.

In other words, could the Series V, with the correct pulley, forged short block, etc, make as much horsepower, or almost as much horsepower, as the KB 2.2? Has anyone tried to make 600 or 700 rwhp using a Series V with a smaller pulley?

I've done lots of google searches, and I've searched the various Stang forums, but I've had a hard time finding info on the Series V.

Here is the Saleen ad, selling it for $7000 (you have to do a Search using keyword "series"):

Here is an ad, selling it for $6200:

Same type of blower. Same power can be made with both.

From what I have heard from a lot of people is that the Saleen intercooler is very poor.

I heard the Saleen intake design was the bottleneck. Or maybe that was the series IV and not the V. I think I trust the KB quality control reputation more than Saleen.

Maybe the same type of blower but definately a different intake. The saleen unit sucks.

I finally focused on the Saleen forums, and that helped, because I found out more info on the Saleen Series V blower.

Here's one guy who claims to have run it at 18 psi and 550 rwhp (scroll down to Birdieman4 reply):
http://www.mustangforums.com/m_503061/mpage_1/key_series/tm.htm#503853

In fact, the same guy believes that the Series V can do 650 rwhp:
http://www.mustangforums.com/m_279242/mpage_1/key_series/tm.htm#293062

Eventually, he wrecked his S-281-E, unfortunately.

He's the only person I've seen who actually tried to run the Series V at a high boost.

The 2v E car only makes around 400-425, pushing more air and at a higher boost pressure level, but is saddled with the same manifold.......and the motor had head work too in addition to porting the manifold to help get the extra horsepower out of it.

If your main goal is to live in the 400 + RWHP neighborhood, start looking at alternative products to Saleen as they will not get you there.

The Saleen has a lot of restrictions that keep it well under 500 RWHP.

If you want power with a TS you need to go KB.

I'm trying to figure out how Birdieman4 got 550 rwhp out of the Series V.

Are you saying that it was because the S-281-E had headwork done, and because someone ported the Series V intake?

In other words, are you saying that the Series V intake manifold is exactly the same as the Series IV intake manifold?

By the way, I found out that Birdieman4 didn't wreck his S-281-E. A Ford dealer wrecked it:

I find it hard to believe he made that much hp. That would put him up in the KB area and I know for a fact that the KB intake flows much better than the Saleen intake.

Yes the manifolds are the same. The Saleen intake manifold flat out sucks.

I wouldn't believe those numbers unless I personally saw the car on the dyno.

I'm very aware of what the limitation of the manifold is, and to say that it's simply an intercooler gap issue is not correct.

The statement that you just use some "sealant" for the gaps would suggest that someone has never see that system's components apart.

Search on the Corral, supercharger forum and do a search. You will come across a couple of long threads with plenty of info and pics. If the pics aint active I'll send 'em to ya.

Again the manifolds are the same on the two kits, but on the E car it was ported. The E car also was running 11-psig of boost to break that 400 mark (with head work).....I'm not impressed.

I don't know if the new Series V kits come with a ported manifold.
