Depends on your transmission. I have 4.10's in my automatic and its perfect, but if you have a 5 speed i would proboly go with 3.73's.

i had 4.10s in my last car; i have 3.73s in this one.

i can only talk about what they are like with a manual because i haven't driven an automatic with gears.

imo, for a manual, the 4.10s are too short. 1st gear is almost completely useless. 2nd is really short too; 25mph was like 2500 rpms, too high for my liking in a 25 mph neighborhood. but 3rd and 4th are great.

3.73s are better for a daily driver. 2nd is useable in neighborhoods. 3rd and 4th are also great.

lol.... i love these threads

anyway, 4.10s are the answer. if your going to be taching out... you are going to be doing like 130+ in 5th. the difference between 4.10s and 3.73s is only like 200-300 rpms. either way, you will like em.

If you are unsure why not just get 390's they seem pretty nice too!!

If your car is a daily driver get 373's...no question about it...

Longer engine life (less revs)...and better gas mileage...and you have to shift less around town...

Well i always feared the gear...i ran 355s for 3 yrs..i swapped in 373s last week and love em...little better than the 355s....car seems much easier to drive and smoother to...
i have a mild cam and it always seemed to stumble some taking off and i was hoping the gears would help that..they did...
373s made it so much nicer...with a 5spd they're perfect...have no idea on the gas milage as i dont even bother...
1st isnt as bad with the 373s as i thought it would be...shoulda swapped em in earlier...

No it does not

At least the question is not What size throttle body should I get?

Golfpro

I have 373's and I like them a lot but sometimes I wish I had 410's. IMHO, a kinda rule of thumb is, if your combo has a powerband that has been moved up some the steeper gears are not as radical as you might think.

Use this link with your tire size and play with the different ratios. You'll be surprised at how small some of the differences are with the various ratios.

Hey lets make this thread a total waste of time and discuss................

X Pipe VS H Pipe

Pro 5.0 VS Steeda Tri AX

Which CIA system to get

how much HP willl ( (Insert mod here) give me and what will I run at the track after..............

I am by no means an expect when it comes to working on cars, I dont have alot of the knowledge or the tools thats why my friend chris has helped me on alot of things ( even though Ive learnt alot over the past yr) but I have never asked ANYONE here on stangnet or any of my other stang buddies what I should get for my car. Everything that is on my car has been a choice made by me w/ out help from anyone else.

Ok I'll get off my soap box now.......

how about this... dont be an internet racer,

look at what your car traps or what it will be trapping in the future and the rpm you can pull it to and base yor gear on that.

If you are staying boltons and heads cam, do 4.10s definitely

if you are going heads cam vortech or vortech with lots of bost get a 3.73

I myself am in desparate need of 4.10s because of the rpm intake. I would go 4.30s but i dont have the rpm for as fast as i will trap and how far my motor will pull to.

there is a science to gearing its not an argument like best sounding muffler, the old "3.73 for stick 4.10 for auto" is Bullsit

3.73's for a T5
4.10's for an auto
Unless you have a power adder or some substantial mods, in which case your tranny if prolly different anyways, and you would know what you need to do then cuz you would be that much more knowledgable.

4.10, but I'm biased.

I'll probably go with 4.30 later on.

Well I have 3.73's in my AUTOMATIC and I get at least 19 mpg. Sometimes 21 or 22 if I baby it. So gas mileage should not be an issue. you should get better than your getting now. You may have some problems unless flooring it ALL the time.

I agree with the statement that this argument is pointless. There is never a clear cut answer so go with your gut. I went 3.73's and never looked back.
