I went with 4.10's in my '05 GT with Auto and I am very pleased with the outcome. With the 5 speed auto, you are not over-revving in 5th gear at highway speeds and it gives my car plenty of "attitude" on secondary and atown roads.

I think you would be dissapointed with 3.73's, the 3.90's are another inbetween choice but are not made by FRPP, you would have to go aftermarket. The 3.31's absolutly suck and I am really glad to be rid of them.

4.10. Love mine. I spin like mad if I punch it out of the hole, but for some strange reason, I don't think it's from the 4.10s.

I have 285/35x18 on the rear, and no they don't spin easily but I haven't really tried either.

Ask Kooldawg6, he has raced his '06 with the 4.10's and is in the very low 13's with stock tires.

Go with the 4.10s. They are pretty mild mannered on the street when you know they are there. They will spin pretty good if you rev it up just a bit on a launch. I am running the 235/50-18s for now.

Here is a timeslip of mine from the end of last month on those tires.

Here is a video to show you that they will spin AND get you down the road

I went with the 3.73s. Glad I did too. They give you TONS of pull and are still livable day to day.

I don't drag race so that does affect my opinion. But even with 3.73s I am at a whopping 3k rpms on the freeway when doing 75mph or so. With 4.10s I can't even imagine the roar and fuel dumping.

If you're not a racer, 3.73's are pretty good with an auto. I had them in my '96 and they worked well. I may put them in my '05. As Mr._Q said, they will keep the revs at cruise reasonably under control, but they will get you going quicker. Also, I didn't see any increase in gas consumption in my '96 as a result of the gears.

MY .02 cents-
I like the 3.73's great all round gear in our 2006 Automatic.

2.00 60' times
13.27 @ 103 with big a$$ brakes (14" front & 13" Steeda rear) and 275 40 x18 BFG's all around.

Cruise speed at 2500rpm = 75mph & 25mpg

maxima,
In April, I was able to launch around 1700 RPM with very little tire spin. This time however, after removing 195 lbs from April's runs, I had massive tire spin and was only able to launch just above idle. Here is a chart of all my runs from both outtings. You will see my 60' times are nearly identical, but everywhere else improved greatly. Next year, MTs and 12s
Rows 15 & 17-I spun all the way into 3rd gear in both of these runs and had to let off the gas and let the tires hook before stomping it again.

Well, I have an 01 GT auto and had FRPP 3.73s put in 2 months ago. When I mash the gas she spins like crazy and gives a nice yell going into 2nd gear. At highway speeds I'm about 2,900 RPM at 80Mph. Again though the sn95 autos are only a 4 speed. All I have to say is I love my 3.73s.

Hears a small video of the 1st-2nd chirp.

Nice birdie chirps scupking That is about the same RPM I turn at 80 with the 4.10s. These 5 speed autos are nice.
Here are the trans ratios for the S197 GT. The autos nearly have the same first gear, but a steeper second & third gear than the manuals
TRANSMISSION
Standard Five-speed manual (Tremec 3650)
Gear ratios
1st 3.34:1
2nd 2.00:1
3rd 1.32.1
4th 1.00:1
5th 0.68:1
Final drive 3.55:1
Optional Five-speed automatic (5R55S)
Gear ratios
1st 3.25:1
2nd 2.44:1
3rd 1.55.1
4th 1.00:1
5th 0.75:1
Final drive 3.31:1
