Just wondering if anyone can help me out in my search for a fairly mild crate motor. Don't have much time to work on an entire buildup, work7 days a week and go to college as well (not much $ also) and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a crate motor producing an amount of power that the stock tranny/rearend can also handle. I only put 3-5k miles on the 5.0 per year, and maybe it will see the track twice a year. The current motor needs a replaced front and rear main seal, along with whatever else (im not sure if anything else is wrong with the motor, but i figure i will be much happier with a crate professionally built than having a friend and I teach ourselves how to change the seals. Anyways, I also can purchase a 75shot of Nx express of a friend that was setup to be used for a '95 m3. MY question is...since it is an 87 my 5.0 has Speed Density...would i need to upgrade to mass air meter for a gt40x FRPP motor?? OR would literally i just be able to toss that crate motor in and just upgrade the Intake. Will i be better off just using the 75shot and upgrading the h/c/i? Motor has 88k on it...

the engine is probably fine Ive had a couple 5.0's roll past 120-165k miles on them that run strong as hell, I say just get all new gaskets for the engine and then put a h/c/i of your choice on and spray if you want to.. all these 5.0 leak it's not going to hurt it, hell they are just broken in when they start leaking lol
and the rearend will take all the **** you can throw at it and not budge, the trans on the other hand is a ticking grenade with a hopped up engine, is it a 5 speed or auto?
get some gears (i.e. 3.73's) and do all this and it will be a lot faster car and alot more fun to drive..

oh and dont be afraid to work on these things they are one of the easiest cars to work on.. Plus you save all that money!!
