Hey Guys,

I need a bit of help. I finally got my 67 Stang to the point that I was ready to drop in the distributor and fire it up last night. I had isses getting the dist. to drop in. After much scratching my head I figured out that the oil pump drive is 5/16 on the engine, but the distributor fitting on the end is something less than that. It was my understanding that pre 1985 distributors were all the same? The engine is a 1982 302. Not sure what the distributor is from. I bought a complete duraspark/dist setup. Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks,

Mike

Ok, I did a bit of research this morning and it looks like the larger shaft size is found on 351W/351C and 429s distributors. My engine is an 82 302. Why would this one be different? Can I get a dist from a 351W then?

it sounds to me like someone put a 351w oil pump in your 302, and thus needed the larger drive shaft. the 351w distributor will swap in using the larger shaft, but it is taller from the mounting boss up.
