 I was thinking about going from my current 302 to a 351W. I have a bare 351W block and wanted to know if my stuff from the 302 will convert over? Will the 302 bell housing, heads, centerforce clutch 10.5, gt40 intake manifold, all the accessories up front, oil pan stuff like that convert? I have a feeling I will need new crank, rods, and pistons and that's ok; but if I have to change everything, I might as well rebuild the 302.

What year car? For the most part the front accessories will bolt up. Your lower intake won't. You will need to find a GT40 lower from a Lightning truck. Your heads and bellhousing wil work. The flywheel is a different balance so it won't work. Oil pan is different to. You will need all new internals. Its alot to change unless you have a complete 351 long block.

It's an '89. I hear the 302 pistons will work with 393 crank and stock 351 rods. That's good to know about the lower intake form a lighting truck. That seems hard to find. Thanks for the comments. You have some lineup of cars.

If it's too much work, I might just go with buying a 302 short block, ready assembled, and put my existing stuff back on.

302 -> 351 will need: 351 lower intake, distributer out of a truck, lower motor mounts, conversion headers, flywheel. Just the conversion parts alone can run you up to about $1000!!! Im sure there is more that Im missing.

BTW, dont build a Frankenstien motor.

Don't make the same mistake I did and try to bend up a set of 302 LT's to work with a 351w. Spend the money on a good set of conversion headers.

Since your 351 is bare, you might want to go ahead and consider a stroker assembly, maybe a 408....

That is a good Idea. I have the 302 short block down at the engine builders. He has not gotten back to me on what it will need for rebuild or the cost options on the stokers or 306. So it is not too late for the 351 on this round. Good thought.... thanks
