am planning on dropping a carbureted 302 into my currently 6 cylinder 2000 mustang. Is there anybody out there who could tell me if the stock K-member on my car will work? any other information would help too

(oh yeah, i would like to go with the 4.6, but working on a limited budget, with 3, 302's sittin in the garage, this is about the only way i can upgrade to a 5.0)

or i could use the k-member from a 94 or 95 3.8, i just don't want to go through the hassle of taking my front end apart if i don't have to, and oh yeah, smog rules in my state aren't that strict

You will need a ship load of parts to make this all work.

1. Motor and all its tiny parts
2. Tranmission
3. Rear end

Better off getting a 94-95

Motor... Yes

Transmission... Yes

Rear End...??? I don't think so. I think he could use his rear end. I mean, why couldn't he. I'm still running my orginial 2.8 rearend in my camaro and it has roughly 360 hp at the flywheel.

The rear is good until he starts beating on it, especially at the track. With any kind of traction it will be at risk, then again depending on the power level. You will also need to use accessory brakets and accessories from a 5.0, you will need a new guage cluster(I would use a custom set up like florida 5.0's) You will need to hard wire your ignition switch, rerun the engine compartment side of your fuel lines(use a bypass style carb regulator). You will need custom A/C lines(if you keep it) Also keep in mind your cooling system will need changes. You can get away with the v6 radiator if you use something like the dual focus fan setup. It's a lot of stuff and work, but it's unique. Other than all the ripping out and rewiring it's not that bad, this is my favorite type of project......good luck

He should still be able to use his instrument cluster.

The mustang uses hydroboost. So you lose power steering you also loose brake assist..
Second depending on where you live the car will not be emission legal..
You will have to manually wire the coolant fan.Cruise is gone.you will need a custom fuel feed, fuel lines..Etc...

The 302 and 4.6 share different mounting points..So a 94~95 k member will be needed.

It would be eaiser to trade it in for a gt than to go thru all that headache .unless you are making it strictly a race car..
