What kind of t56 do i have to use to work with a ford 302 based block... what i mean is can i use a camaro or firebirds t56 with a different bellhousing? this is a new ballpark for me so any help is appreciated, thanks Nick
It does. You can change the front of he T56 case to change the bell, but gets expensive. I had the chance to buy a T56 out of a Camaro, but to use it in my Firebird project would have cost nearly as much as a new one withthe correct front cover plate. Can't remember what it's called. Call D & D performance and they can explain further. http://www.ddperformance.com/T-56 Transmissions.htm
If you are interested in this swap it is easier than you think. I have a t56 in mine and love it. You will have to raise the tunnel up...Period. If you are not willing to do this it will not work. Any you'll need to look into a hyd. throw out bearing for clutch actuation. I have had mine for 2 years and am totally happy with it.
Call darkhorse for the crossmember & the tunnel patch and then email me ([email protected]) if you want some ideas as to how to mate the t56 with an older toploader bellhousing. View attachment 342987 View attachment 342989
When I was looking into a T56 swap I was told that there was no way to mate a firebird/camaro T56 to a Ford motor. It's a shame b/c they are so much more abundant.
