Does not surprise me.. Over here in California, at Frontier Ford, they have gone with the showboat V6 route.. Pimped out V6 Mustangs, that look twice as fast as any GT, with stripe kits and fancy wheels.. Already dual exhaust.. At that dealership V6's are selling at $30K.. LOL!! Can you believe it? I am not joking, they have put alot of effort into selling V6's which are already to go in terms of looks.. The power of the V6 this round is enough to convince the average car buyer that its a fast car.. Take someone coming out of a Honda or Toyota for example.. They would most definatley find the car visually appealing based on looks alone.. But downshift it a few times and punch the Gas, the average person, if they have never driven the GT would surely think the pimped out V6 is the truth!! Anyone dont believe me call them..

Frontier Ford 408-241-1800... Ask if they have pimped out V6's, and inquire about the price... $30K V6's are being sold in California!! I will admit they look better than a GT..

These are Coupes and not Verts! A pimped out vert V6 is close to $34K!!

They have some damn good salesman if you ask me!! :nice:

Also keep in mind, the 05 V6 with a good exhaust system sounds like a V8.. So couple this to some nice wheels, fat tires, and ralley stripes, and its easy to see how the average buyer who is not a Mustang nut like all of us, would surely think he is getting a deal on a $30k V6 Coupe, with a Shaker 1000 system!!

Are they actually selling them at that price or just listing them?

Well, the advertised price on the cars with upgrades comes out to $29,995.. Of course they still have bone stock V6's based on the normal Ford classification, but they always have about 8 or 9 pimped out V6 Stangs on hand in all colors..

I guess you can't blame them for trying. How would you like to make a living on Ford 500's and Fusions?

You are right.. You know the V6 Mustangs to the average car salesman is a complete cash cow.. Its a mix between a wonderful car, and an inexpensive investment.. The range is from $17,000 to $30,000... Perhaps the only car in the world which can be sold in this wide gap.. The $17,000 is about what the dealership pays for the car... Now if they can work out a contract with an aftermarket parts dealer, they got it made. The V6 makes more money for a single saleman than a GT can.. This is because the GT must be sold as is from Ford.. While the V6 can be upgraded, making it easier to hide huge profit gains on the car.. No one will appreciate you pumping up the price on the GT by adding a few aftermarket items.. But do it to a V6, and you can hide huge margins..

So bottom line, I bet the GT crisis is more related to the dealers actually choosing to bring in more V6's over the GT. And not related to low GT production numbers.. If you owned a dealership, and knew your dealership could make or profit about $7,000 grand per sale on a V6, or profit $2500 on the GT, which would you choose? I think its obvious, the dealships have been playing everyone on the low number of GT's availble BS to sell the much more profitable V6.. Ford made the V6 easier to sell this time around.. All thats needed is a test drive and the game is over!!

MSP, you have a lot of mis-information in your post.

Ford determines the build mix between V6 and V8s, not the dealers. In fact dealers have to order around 2 V6s for every GT that they order.

There is nothing that prevents a dealer from adding things on to a GT, if you've read some of the threads here you would have see photos of body kits, stripes, hood scoops, wheels, etc. that dealers have added on to GTs and have sitting on their lots for sale, with HUGE markups.

Most V6s are selling below sticker, while most GTs are selling above sticker with NO dealer add ons. Presently, on the average sale, a dealer makes far more profit on a GT than a V6. All those dealer add ons to V6s are an attempt to make more profit $ on V6s since there are not enough GTs to meet demand.

The BMW 3 series starts at $28K and goes all the way up to almost $80K for a loaded M3 vert. That's a $52K differential that far exceeds your $13K example differential from the cheapest to most expensive V6 Mustang.
