my goal for my next engine is a nice flat 350 rear-wheel torque curve, great throttle response, an upper rpm range around 7500, a smooth idle, and it has to be reliable. after all, it is my daily driver. oh, and i am going to stay n/a; i do not want a blower.

at this point, i'm thinking i want a either 331 or a 393 stroker with light-weight internals and valve train, about 11:1 compression, and a not too extreme cam.

what do you think? can i get there with a 331 stroker, or will i need to go 393?

Kinda high expectations for a daily driver with 7500 rpm & 11 to 1 c/r.

A mild cam with that amount of compression could cause you some probs but I'm just thinking out loud at this time.

The windsor would be so kewl with the big cubes and all but the 331 does not need all the stuff it takes to put a windsor in our cars.

Since this car is your dd you might not want to get too radical or dependability could suffer.

Amen.

I've seen "supposed" 11:1 motors that can run on pump gas, but they have very, very slow camshaft timing. To me, it's not worth it. Again, this is just my opinion.

The 331 will have no problems making 350 RWHP, while keeping the RPM under 6500. When you start to get into that 7k stuff, you need to spend some serious cash.

i don't really need the high rpms or such a high c/r, but i do want the great throttle response, 350 rwtq, good idle, and reliability. can i have that with a 331?

do i need lightweight internals and valve train?

Thats all you want is good power and 350tq? Thats incredibly easy. You do NOT need lightweight internals. Get your self a 347 first of all, and use forged rods/pistons and use a cast crank. cast is lighter than forged. If using the stock block, keep the revs no more than 6500 IMO, but higher can be done, but I'd prefer reliability. I'd look into an afr 185, victor jr or even a trickflow TW or a hi port. Use a TFS R intake and a custom cam from jay allen or ed curtis. You'll need a 75mm TB, 1 3/4" longtubes and at least a 30lb injector. Shoot for around 10.5:1. I was planning a 347 and it was gonna be 10.7:1 with ported TW heads, jay allen cam and a TFS R intake. Goal was over 400rwhp and insane tq and excellent top end.

I have a 418 stroker in my car, #'s in sig. It IS a 11.25:1 compression PUMP GAS motor. Throttle response is awesome and revs faster than hell. Dyno #'s in sig.

What kind of cam is in that thing? If it's not a custom, do you mind sharing the specs. I'm guessing that the exhaust valve is held open for quite a bit.

I was not trying to rain all over your parade or anything like that.

I just was trying to say that for a daily driver some of the ideas and or parts like above just are not needed to make respectable power for a street car.

I did go back and read your original post again and I'm pretty sure you are talking about a street car AKA daily driver.

cool, thanks. since it will be a daily driver, reliability is crucial.

btw, you say you "were" planning it ... makes it sound like you are no longer planning it ... what happened?

Too much money to spend right now. I just spent $2000 on a tremec tko tranny and ALL the supporting crap like a mcleod clutch, mcleod scattersheild, aluminum driveshaft with 31 spline yoke, rear main seal, pilot bearing..yada yada you get the idea. Plus I need other things for my cars (yeah I have 2 cars) right now. My mustangs NEEDS new front tires and an alignment badly and my 93 saturn need a new front windshield and might need new tires or have them fixed because they keep loosing air. I broke the windshield myself, dont ask :D So, you see spending $5000+ on a new motor combo isnt exactly what I need right now and plus our local track just closed down for good so that was another reason.

i was wondering if you could build a 418 stroker out of a 351w block 400m crank 347 stroker rods and 350 .030 over pistons any help would be nice i have been looking for the cheepest way to build this engine and was wondering if this combo was posible thanks

if all you want is 350hp and high revs dont matter. just get a 331, ported thumper ported gt40's, tmoss ported intake, afm n412 cam, and a 70mm throttle body. you should be able to do it with a (10:1:1cr). if you have the extra cash just slap a tfs street heat top end kit on the 331. you'll have the power and be able to pass emissions.
