331 Stoker kit ?

Was thinking about having my stock 302 block stroked to a 331, what are the advantages/disadvantages in doing so, does a 331 give you more horsepower, I know it gives you torque but just can't decide if I want to do this or not, I plan to get the lower compression pistons since I'm running a Kenne Bell so to help lower chances of detonation & maybe to be able to run more timing ?
 
Well I was under the impression lowering my compression ratio would allow me to gain more power being I would be able to run more boost or timing, that's my whole purpose it to try & gain power & upgrading my stock lower to protect my heads & improve stability ?
 
To my knowledge, there's not an intercooler for a KB on a 5oh yet. Kennedys says they're working on one to retail but no news yet. I'm running 8 lbs. My current fuel setup is not capable of supporting more. I'm working that issue as we speak. I'll get numbers once I get the mass air conversion done and the exhaust opened up a bit.
 
Like anything else, it will depend on your combination. I'll be building a 331 as well. I'm trying to find a way to get a 4 bolt block. The Blowzilla is capable of roughly 650HP. I'd like to use that potential.
 
Well I tried 2 cams & both of em made me loose power so I figured a 331 since I did not want to buy new heads because I just bought these y303's a few months ago & raising boost did not seem to do nothing.

Hopefully someone else can chime in to the hp/tq gains from a 331 stroker over stock..........
 
Just thought I'd throw this out there and someone should correct me if im wrong but... If you are planning to run a 331 and are considering dropping the compression to run more boost.... you may have the wrong blower... the 1.5L KB is a great blower (I tried to get one instead of my Vortech) but it's not capable of alot of power. It's more suited for smaller displacement/lower boost applications. It is possible to have too much engine for the 1.5 KB, to the point where it isn't helping to have it on there.

I am not totally sure if this will be the case for you, but a 331 with lowered compression would mean you would have to spin the blowers pully pretty fast to see any real useable boost.

Im sure having any positive atmospheric pressure(see sig) would help that 331 more then hurt it, it comes down to CFMs and how well that Kenne Bell can breathe.

Description: If you plan on building a nice combination to run 6-9 psi on 92-94 octane, we highly recommend our Number 1 selling 1500 (1.5L) supercharger. It is rated at 450HP. Standard practice is to run 6-8 psi for everyday driving and then up the octane, boost - and HP - for the weekends or racing. Truly, the best of both worlds. Every 1 psi = 10-15HP. Also great for big inch 347", 351" etc. Available in 2 basic models for '86-'93 and '94-'95 Mustangs.
Standard Inlet w/Bypass - Great or 6-18 (375HP/560 cfm) 5.0 or GT40 with 80-90mm mass air meter and 70mm throttle body. Will make 460 engine (360 rear wheel) HP but loses horsepower through inlet (see "Rear Wheel HP Comparison" below)

At some point, any and all components need to be upgraded if they are not to restrict engine breathing at increased HP levels.
Our "standard" inlet manifold was originally designed to support around 300 rear wheel/375 engine HP with virtually no HP loss - and it does.
Twin Screw is always pumping at full capacity, even at idle. That is why the full instant boost is always there - on demand.


At 328 RWHP, the FLOWZILLA is good for +8HP. At 361, it's +30HP and at 403, it makes +43HP (see actual tests by magazine). The FLOWZILLA and BLOWZILLA make an awesome combination.

Nope, I seen it (the 1.5l kb) in his sig.... :rolleyes: I figured he would just be re-using it. The only reason I brought my original post up was because I've seen a lot of guys sell their 1.5l after moving to a 347 stroker and realizing the blower was too little to be efficient.

EDIT: Also wanted to know... Where did you get that description from???
 
Well I may not really raise boost but maybe 1 pound but wouldn't ya think I'd be able to just a bit & maybe some more timing @ the top with a lower compression ratio, I don't know how low & am open for suggestions but I figure somewhere around 8.6 would be perfect considering stock is what 9.0 ?
