just wondering what kind of horse power to excpect w this combo

331 kit w fully floating forged internals
afr 185 or canfield heads "which ones are better"
victor jr intake ported
750 dp holley
trickflow satge 2 cam
long tube headers
3" exhaust

Ditto, what kind of compression, around 11:1 would be ideal. My 418 is 11.25:1, on the dyno made hp #'s in sig on pump gas.

it all depends on his setup and what he wants we all know lower compression engine produce less power (n/a setup), assuming flat top pistons he will have anywhere from 9.5:1 to 10.5:1, domes at least 11.0:1 and up, and inverted lc pistons 8.0:1 to 8.5:1. If i remember right I think for every increase in compression by 1 point the power will increase by 5% roughly overall I think.

yea i at least want 10:1 but 10:5.1 would be great. i,ve seen a few 302 combos with afr 185 heads make 450 on motor on the engine dyno so i cant see why a 331 couldn't make close to 500 , also which heads do you all think are better the afr's or the canfeilds

Have you checked into a set a TEA ported TFS heads?

A lot of the Canfields have issues with cracking, although when ported correctly they can make good power. Out of the box the AFR's would be hard to beat....

331 / forged / custom comp cams cam / hyd.roller / ss roller rockers / stock afr 185 / airgap rpm / holly 750-no choke / msd dist&box / jba shortys / 2 1/2" full lenght pipes with "x" flow master delta 50's / tremec to a 9" with 4:11's untuned just throw it on the dyno and run it 343.6 hp @ 6200 {made 339@6800} but only 323 foot pounds of torque

yea i'm begining to think afr's are the best out of the box and aasome when ported !
