What' the Hell is a Barry Grant "Cold Claw"? Sounds like the hand on that dead guy that knocks on your door when it's time to go.

I'm guessing you knew what he meant, but I had no clue so i had to look it up.
Must really be a GOLD claw, but cold claw sounds so much cooler.

yes 2000 the 408 was in a 88 fox for friend of course I did not tune it I'm not that savvy. I don't want turbo to much heat and tight fit, nitrous backfires to much lol. But thanks for all the help I'm starting with suspension and chassis once complete on to performance. Like I said I just want a build list in place. Thanks guys much appreciated.

I would talk to @Sharad for all of your suspension needs. He is our resident UPR guru and can certianly set you in the right direction. My car uses 100% UPR prducts suspension and hooks in a dirt parking lot (no really it does) I street drive my car and kill it at the track and their parts are just simply the best!

Thanks Nick. Indeed, if our suspension is good enough for Nick's X275 street car, it's good enough for the rest of us.

Pete PMed me and I replied with my recommendation, but I'll post it here for future reference if anyone else is interested:

Back in 2003, I had a 92 Notch which made 525rwhp. I ran 10.17 @ 132 with a 1.39 short time, on UPR Pro Series suspension. Your goal is totally attainable. UPR Products are Made in America and they carry a Lifetime Guarantee. Additionally, you can use forum15 as a coupon code to get 10% off of any part we manufacture. Here is what I would recommend-

Front suspension kit:
79-93 Ford Mustang Chrome Moly K Member Package | UPR

Rear suspension kit:
79-04 Ford Mustang Pro Series Rear Suspension Package

Subrame connectors:
79-04 Ford Mustang Full Length Subframe Connectors | UPR

Torque box reinforcements:
79-04 Ford Mustang Heavy Duty Upper & Lower Torque Box Kit

The quoted post is a wise one. I was trying to think of a polite way to say 1000 hp in a fox body is an accident waiting to happen. Like The Road Runner's Coyote with a rocket pack and roller blades type of bad idea.

If it hooks, it will see the stars. If it does not hook, you will end up going the wrong way while headed there at a high rate of speed. Bog block Monza/Vega/V-8 Pintos all potentially had the same short wheel base issue. I am glad you have reconsidered your goal and are looking for a great suspension.

This is gonna sound all smart ass, but I never really understod the quest for the "big numbered" HP level on a street car. It is completely understandable on a drag car, as speed or ET is only attainable based on overcoming the weight by adding power.

But on a street car it's ludicrous.

How many guys that have 600-700-800 WHP will ever see the benefit of having "that much power" if the car is relegated to living it's life driving to the cruise-in's, and getting groceries?

A 500 WHP fox is an insane ride in of itself, given the relatively short wheel base and sub-3000 lb curb weight, That power level completely sustainable on a Dart based build for like until the 12th of never. Anything north of that is what?............that much extra tire smoke?

** Disclaimer..... IMHO

@Sharad, I am piecing together a new rear suspension to replace all my poly equipped stuff. I got a set of lowers with no sway bar mount on them. I do not run an ARB at the moment. I haven't run a front sway bar in years, but how does a street driven fox fair w/o a rear swaybar?

Not trying to threadjack, but i'm sure the OP could use the same info.

Thanks.

Joe

One thing i'd like to add is that IMO, eliminate the least from the car as possible. Keep the power steering, Heat, AC, don't strip the sound deadener or add a fuel cell, leave the rear seat.
It's just not necessary to have a really quick street car and it's a sure fire way to devalue the hell out of the car. Leave doing these things to the hardcore racers that literally need every tenth to compete. Plenty of guys run 10's with complete cars.

Remember too at about 525rwhp is where the stock fuel system runs out of steam, going above that number is the difference between a $2000 fuel system or a $100 gss340 pump.
Crossing 500rwhp changes the pricing on one of these projects drastically, that's why I normally try and convince people to stay around 450rwhp. Probably a difference of about $7500-$10,000 dollars from 450-500rwhp and 600rwhp.
Not going to push hard for that, because it already seems like a victory getting you from 1000hp down to 600hp, lol.

Me personally, i'd never build a fuel system again.

Personally, if the car is not using an ARB, I like to use a rear swaybar. I'm not saying it's absolutely necessary, but it helps traction on the launch. Otherwise the body rolls quite a bit. (and unloads the RR tire)

They were just talking about 850hp for NACAR. A NASCAR style Mustang build would be fun overkill. It would also be a good excuse to not use carpet or AC.
