Looking at putting a 302 stroked to 347 in my 84 stang.
Uses: Strip and Street. Mostly Strip. Looking at around 400-450 HP

Powertrain:
Heads: AFR 205 or AFR 225?
Intake: Edelbrock Performer Air-Gap
Cam: Lunati Hydro Roller Cam - 55118
Carb : Quick Fuel 850 cfm QFT-Q-850-AN
Rotating Assembly: Scat SCA-1-45310BE
Ignition : MSD 6AL-2 Box, MSD Magnetic Dizzy

Drivetrain:
Torque ConvertorHUP-51-30
Transmission: Built AOD with full manual valve body and trans brake.
Rear end: 8.8 inch. dunno what locker or gear ratio.

My questions are
1. What gear ratio and locker should I use?
2. Would you change anything in this set up?
3. How much HP/TQ would you estimate it at?\
4. Which AFR heads?

This might help a little with head selection.

Well, we need a lot more info...

The 185s are the best suited head for your application.

What gears depends on your cam, and plain flat out trial and error.

Don't be afraid of big heads! Those 225s are big enough to allow growing room beyond your 347 build, but either the 205s or 225s are enough to reach your power goals. I'm looking at the 225's specs right now, and noticing it has a .375 raised exhaust port, that's something to consider.

Don't the 205s have a raised port as well? I've got 205s on mine, and I'm pretty sure they do... I built it almost 4 years ago, though. So, I'm kinda rusty.

In fact, I think the 225s are based on the 205s...

Oh, and I think the 205s would be the best fit for a mostly strip engine. I'd also go with a less than mild cam and a 28 oz or less crank off-balance. You'll still be limited on what you can spin the motor to, but I'd go to 6800 rpm or so.

I've been doing more research and I'm think about doing a Solid roller instead of the Hydraulic roller, I know there's a more maintenance to the solid rollers. But I'm okay with that.

Also whats bad about the raised port? or is it good? Does it change the alightment of the heads and mid pipe?

Also I don't know how Dart heads perform. I know some ford people around my area that highly recommend them. I haven't really been about to find much about the Dart head's performance as they recently got into the SBF business.
Looking at either the 210 or the 225 but the AFRs are still in my thoughts as well.

As for the crank shaft I'm now thinking of getting all the parts separate instead of a kit so I can choose the specs I want. And I'm gonna try and shoot for an internal balance crank.

I had to block your avatar because I kept getting distracted by it and couldn't read your posts.

Yea, the 205's exhaust ports are raised .125" IIRC.

The raised ports flow better than standard ports, BUT will lead to fitment issues with your headers. It's just something to keep in consideration.

Then plan on an aftermarket block especially since i'm guessing you are planning on a few extra rpm.
Stock blocks do not do all that well with the solid setups.
I've seen it attempted a few times, and none of the attempts lasted that long.

Yeah, can't say I've personally split a block, but there are so many examples of guys doing it. A lot of guys would post in the old days about trying to spin these motors to 7500 rpm and if you look on Marc Arnold's cobra on google and read, you'll see you can accomplish some pretty impressive things with a hydraulic roller cam. He was having problems with the man caps walking when he was only spinning the motor to 7200 rpm.

i have tried the 185s and the 225 outlaws from afr the 185s made the same power but at less rpms . with the 225s you have to order headers from kooks . there two inch primerys the 185s are more reliable.
