1. When I get my 347 built, what else do I need to upgrade to feed it?

I plan on Trick Flow Twisted Wedge (or AFR) heads, a healthy cam (manual tranny only) with Rhodes lifters (to add street manners), an Explorer intake (lower ported by tmoss, upper opened up by me to 70 mm), headers, x pipe, 70 mm throttle body and EGR plate.

2. What is the best way to lift the motor when installing it? My carb pad plate will not fit the EFI manifold.
Do you pull the upper intake and bolt on the chain to the heads over the lower intake? Or how do you hook on best? On a Fox body car, does it work best with or without the transmission attached to the motor? I hate reaching the top bolts on the scatter shield.

I wouldn't put an Explorer intake on a 347, ported or no. I bolted my hoist chain to one of the bolt holes in my heads, and there was a bolt hole in the back of the block that I used also. I installed the trans and engine separately. Like you said, the bolts for the scatter shield aren't any fun at all.

No need for the Rhodes lifters, the Ford Racing lifters will work just fine for that set-up and give you a lot of miles. Go with an aftermarket intake or youll starve the 347, go Holley Systemax, TFS Track Heat of RPM II, have a custom cam ground to maximize the set-up. If you need to buy a TB and MAF go 75mm TB and 80mm MAF, 30# inj.

If the stock lifting hooks are not on the headers anymore you can bolt into the front and rear of the heads. I actually prefer to drop the trans and motor in together if at all possible, then I can dial the trans in while it is still on my shop floor. If not use a lot of long extensions and a swivel to get you up to the top of the trans.

If you need anything let me know
