Hey guys...on verge of ordering the 5.13 347 chp longblock with afr 185 heads and so on...But I was wondering if there's any of you 347 users who regret doing a 347 for any reson besides wishing you would have done a 351 based stroker. I do plan on running 6-8lbs of boost to it at a later date as well. This is a daily driver, 95 Cobra. Figured I'd recieve a larger response in here...Thanks!

I dont personally have a 347, but a guy I met at the track in a silver notch had a 347 from either cental coast mustang or coast high performance and he whishes he would have went with a 331. he said a 347 is at the extreme edge of long term durability and with a little over 10000 miles on the motor its stating to use oil. He said after he called a few engine builders they said that the stroke is so long that the piston comes to the very bottom of the cylinder bore and tends to were out the rings quickly. Also because of the long stroke a 347 put a lot more stress on the block.

Rod size doesn't matter, its ALL in the build/machine work.

Just4bob, your in PA, your friend shoulda checked out www.mcrp.us for a 347 shortblock rather than a bad build from whoever built it. Either that or he beat the piss out of his engine for 10,000 miles a 1/4 mile at a time ;)

I thought about the 351 based engine route but its too much money for me and too much extra BS for my taste. I took the cheaper way out and am doing a 347 and in the end I will still end up with a car PLENTY fast for me and more than enough to wrap myself around a tree ;)

Yup getting my 347 built right now. I got the chp 347 kit and having someone put it together. Either way if you go 351 will probably turn out the same money wise cause you figure all the oil pan and all that stuff you will probably buy for the 347 so why not just go 351 or stroke the 351 and put out alot of power and not worry about the great 302 block. Just my o2. I kinda wish i would have gone bigger probably would have cost me the same.

I have a 347 (built @ chp) in my EEcIV equipt 85 mustang right at 326 rwhp 370ftbs torque very driveable on the street and uses no oil. the only problem I had is the dip stick when its in it hits the crank, so I just have a short unoperable one it the tube and the full length one in the trunk. If you buy from chp torque check everything (I would do this with any motor). Chris oh yea it currently has just over 10k mi

You make as much sense as that pic i've seen on the net with the buddy with a pancake on its head.

A 331 will NOT rev higher than a 347. How high an engine rev's is determined by the parts both inside the block and on the top (heads/cam/intake)

Apparently you've never seen the 8000 rpm AFM 347 in that dudes cobra that runs upper 9's on motor?!!?!!!??!?

Nik, if your serious about this 347, your asking on the wrong site ;)

Bigger Engine requires bigger heads. On average a good head for the 351 will cost 1000+ more dollars. The intakes are more expensive as well.

That's not true.... TFS R heads aren't that much money and the intakes are about 50 dollars more.. I paid about 600 canadian for my edelbrock efi intake.

MM&FF magazine got 385 hp and close to 500 ft lbs with stock e7's milled to accept the longer valve springs on ford racing 393 with a comp cams HE grind.

Just goes to show you don't need a LOT of head when you have more ci to pull air through them.

oh well in that case im going to go ahead and thow some 15 inc long rods in my 302 put some honda rod journals on the crank and crank that sucker up to 15,000 rpms.....lol

My personal opinion is 351w swap! I'm rounding up the parts to do it now, and I'm getting most of them off Ebay for excellent prices! I'm spending a LOT less for my power increase than building a 347... Just pick up a 351 from a bone yard (approx. $200) and freshen it up a little.

I think I'll finish this Swap for a grand total of around $800. Just be patient and round up the parts slowly, keep watching those auctions!

The reason I'm going 351w is because I can always stroke it up some more when ever that extra money comes in. 347 guys can only go power adder, on a block thats already maxed out...

Question: Would you rather have a Blowzilla on a 347 stroker or a 393 stroker with a lot more solid block? More longevity more power! :hail2:

Just my opinion... :D

351W of course...

As far as durability, the 351W wins, hands down. The blocks are much thicker (especialy the early models),they have a very beefy crank from the factory, stronger rods (foot ball rods are the strongest),and bigger head bolts (they will hold more compression/boost).Every thing else is about the same price wise except the short block,I got my original 357 short block for $700 so there actualy cheaper.
