okay my aim is about 350whp and im collecting parts right now. id like to keep the engine as stock as possible until theres no other way but to upgrade internals.

so heres my set up.
This will be going to a different car not a mustang so i cannot use long tubes header.

t5 tranny

1990 302 stock engine. ac/ps/smog pumps are removed.
air gap intake with a 600cfm edebrock carb. and intake
block huggers short tube headers.
2.5" straight through dual exhuast with x pipe.
mallory pump with regulators.

aluminum radiator with electric fan.

from there i dont know what mods i need for 350whp.what do you guys think i need to break my goal?

im thinking cams. but nothing too agreesing idle.

Well unfortunately, if you wanna build that much power without building a stroker, you're going to have to run a huge cam, a single plane intake and a bigger carb, plus heads that will support high RPM because you'll have to rev the hell out of it to make the power, and you'll have to have at least 10-11:1 compression ratio to do it IF you even can. That's a lot of power for a bolt-on 302. It's just plain old not going to happen with stock or junkyard heads and a 600cfm carb though.

I'm just now making 362hp, and it took a stroker kit and a pretty rowdy cam to get there. Before the stroker and cam i would guess i was somewhere around 280-300hp because i don't think a stroker kit and the cam gave me an additional 100hp at the wheels. Remember that 350hp at the wheels is roughly 400hp at the crank, so stepping up a stock engine that was rated at 225hp to 400hp is going to take a healthy head/cam/intake combo and lots of RPM to make it.

what size carb would be idial for 350whp?

i though the 600cfm would be enough for that.

and so with those bolt on im looking at around 280-300whp? and how are the torque.

To be honest, i'm skeptic that you can even make 350 at the wheels without building a stroker...with a base 302ci, i don't think it'll happen unless it's running crazy high compression and crazy high RPM. Like i said you're talking about a 400hp engine at the crank, so making that much power isn't going to be easy...if even possible...unless you go with a 331-347. Then again i'm no engine builder...but if it were easy to do or even common then i'm sure you'd see more combos out there showing us how.

Realisticly people are happy to see 300 at the wheels with heads cam and intake on a stock shortblock. 320 at the wheels is exceptional for a 302 and only a handful of people with have been able to pull it off and they have a pretty tuned setup. I think you will have to juice it or go with a stroker.

We had a car at the shop that made 350rwhp with a c4 and a 302 . . .

but it was a solid roller (some comp "custom") with ~250 @ .050", .680-.700" lift.
Ported Victor jr intake, ported high ports, 12:1 neighborhood, 1 7/8" longtubes with 3" exhaust, 750 holley dp

Made peak at 7400. 60s block, that was half-filled . . . probably some race leftovers from the 80s.
