351C / C4 question...

Hey, The progress is slow but Im working on putting the engine back in now. It was a 302/C4 combo but I have a 351C 2v now. Question is, do I need the 164 tooth flywheel or will the 157 one from the 302 work?? If the starter is the same I cant figure out what differance the no. of teeth make? thanks...

Flywheel is matched to bellhousing size..big bell is 164tooth

Both the Cleveland and the 302 used the same imbalance weight, so the 302 flexplate will work on the Cleveland.

I have the 157 tooth in my 351c/c4, also using mini-high torque starter.

Good news, thanks. Hows the 351/C4 combo working out for you? And Rmodel, what kind of engine did you have with your C-4's? Stock?

If you try to run a 157 tooth flexplate/bellhousing behind a 351c you will find that the stock diameter starter will hit the oil pan rail.As stated above it will work with a smaller diameter starter just fine.

Dude, I'm with you, I finally found a (yes, I'll say it outloud..) stock FMX tranny from a Torino, and it held up WAYYYYYYYYYY better than 3 built C-4s. That's just ME, but, I would have a backup plan....

You've just rediscovered what was widely known back in the 70's FMX's were twice the transmission C-4's were.
