351W+$3,000=?

So I stopped by the body shop today to see how the stang is doing (they are stripping it to metal, etching it, then primering it) and one of the guys there told me that a couple people we wanting to buy my motor off me. I told him what it had and asked how much people offering. He said that he himself would pay $3,000.

Now, I have probably only spend $1,000 on the motor to get it were it is now, so doing this would mean $2,000 in profit. My neighboor has a 69 351W 2bbl sittin in his side yard that he said I could have whenever I want. I am wondering how good/powerfull of a 351W I could build with $3,000 (take into account that this motor will need a rebuild for sure).

Unless he's inflated the price that he'll give you because he's inflated the price of you're bodywork.

with $3000, you can have a 345hp GT40 crate motor shipped to you (302). All you need is an intake and carb!

If you are going to rebuild a 351w....figure at least $1200 for the bottom half to be rebuilt...including labor and parts. That leaves you $1800 for heads, a cam, intake, lifters, pushrods, rockers, fuel, and carb. All up to you bud!

I'm building a 393 stroker for not much over $3000, but I already had the proper radiator, intake, carb etc. I would do it.

The only work that would be done on the 351W rebuild wise is machine shop work. Assembly would all be done by me. As for the my bodywork price being inflated; it is being done by my old autobody teacher (who decieded that I pay only $500 for all this) and he is not one of the people interested in buying the motor.

Ask for $3500 and see what people say... What they offer isnt what tehy are willing to pay. If I were you, I would take the money and just buy a longblock from someone like CHP

Don't kid yourself, if you are looking for a 500 lb.ft., 500 h.p. engine, you will spend $7,000. If you are looking for a healthy daily driver or weekend cruiser, go for it!!!!!!

I've got a 306 sitting in my garage with the Performer RPM intake and cam with ported '69 351W heads that I'd sell for $3000 in a heartbeat and buy the new owner a brand new 600 CFM carb, their choice of a Edelbrock or a Holley. I don't know how many miles your motor has on it, but this one only has about 1000. It had a set of aluminum heads on it that got put on my race motor and my 351 heads got put on this motor. My race motor ran 11.0's N/A on these heads in a 3000# car, so they flow pretty good.
