My dad has a 68 Mustang that were about to drop a 89 model 351w/c4 in. It has a 164 tooth flywheel, I need a starter for it would I just ask for a 89 f150 (what the motor is out of)starter at my local parts store? Or is there something better smaller w/o going to the aftermarket?

the c-4 wasn't on the engine before was it? your going to have to ask for a starter for a 164 tooth flywheel. the 351w and 302 starters are the same. your flex plate is going to be the difference make sure you have a 28 oz flex plate not the 50 oz ones that h.o. 302 used.

btw what do you have the 383 in? my bro in-laws are mopar nuts they have 2 440 68 darts and a 46 dodge pick-up with a 440 on nitrous. i guess there is also the late 70's aspen with a 360 all trick out also on nitrous.

acutally it doesnt matter what flexplate you have. the starters are all the same. just ask for one from the 89 F150/auto and use it.
this is not a all together true statement. some of the depths for flex plates are different thus changing the needs of the starter nose depth.
