recently a mechanic friend asked me if I was interested in a 390 axle that he had he said that it was a good performance part for my stang my car is stock at this moment. Idont even know what kind of axle my stang has is a 94 GT 5.0 thats all I know do you think it could be a good idea to replace this part.
it wont cost me a dime it is being given to me by this friend.

Thanks

If it is a Ford 8.8" rear end from a 94-98 or 99-04 Mustang with 3.90:1 gears then get it and put it in your car. For that price it is definately worth it.

The difference in the later Mustang rearends is that they are 1.5" wider than the 94-98 rearends. This is not a problem. You can use it in our cars.

Is the whole axle assembly? If it is, just pull the ring and pinion and maybe even the traction loc unit out and put it in your rear end. The 3.90 gear would be a good one, for even a stock Mustang.

Gas mileage doesn't suffer more than 2 or so miles per gallon at the worst. Many guys with 3.73's get improved gas mileage because the car runs more efficiently.
i've gotten about 21 mpg in all my mustangs...from 2.73, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10, and 4.30's :nice:

its about how you drive that dictates what mpg's you'll be pulling
