I just got a 3G alternator and I am in the Garage trying to figure this thing out. I know I have the External Regulator on the fender well and It has 4 wires on the connector, also I have a 2 wire plug in on the top of old alternator. I have the new wires (Plug in and Stator wireplug) for the 3G, but Which ones do I cut or Splice into.??? Help, If somebody can...

Dave.

http://www.mustangcentral.net/tech/alternator.html Use this link, it should help you. The black/orange wires is actually 1 wire that Y's off. Just cut that wire where it Y's and you'll have a single black/orange wire. This wire needs a ring connector so you can connect it to the post on the new 3G. Your new 4g power wire will also connect to this same post, and you'll run it across the engine bay and connect it to the ignition coil on the fender by the battery. The black/white wire connects to the stator spot on the alternator. The website has pics to help show you whats going on. Some people connect the 4g wire to the battery post, but I was told to connect it directly to the ignition coil. Also, I'm not sure if the website has it or not, but an inline fuse should also be used with the new power wire. If the website doesnt tell you to use it, and you have questions, let me know and I can help you figure it out. Good luck to you!

This site has a fuse that they used, but it's not the way I did mine. I went to a stereo shop and got 200amp inline fuse and fuse holder to use. I think they recommend 150-200amp inline fuse. I mounted the fuse on the black plastic cover that covers the ignition coil. Some people mount it on the fender, but I mounted mine where I had room, which was the plastic cover. Anyway, if you have more questions post it here. A lot of people have done this swap and should be able to help

I assume you are putting this on a PRE-86 Mustang since you mention external regulator?

In that case you can't use the same method as the 86-93 cars to do this swap.

I don't have the webpage showing how to do it on a pre-86, but if you take a trip to www.foureyedpride.com and do a search, they cover it well there
