okay, the 3G is finally in the 1968 engine bay. I'm running the V belt pulleys to a 4 gauge wire with a 175A fuse to the starter noid.

Do I have the ignitor wire attached correctly? I have it running to number #35 in this pic...

Also, what do I do about all the wiring going to the stock external voltage regulator.
When I start the car, with the external voltage regulator connected, I am seeing 14.4 volts across the battery. After diconnecting the ext. volt. reg. the voltage across the battery is 12/2 ish....Did I screw up somewhere? Thanks for the help again.

Rusty 67, you are a library of useful info...thanks

thanks, I have that diagram....why is there only a 12.3 volt load accross the battery at idle though? isnt it supposed to be around 14volts?

I'm looking at wiring digram for the 1968 now...from some instructions the "exciter" wire from the 3G gets connected into a GREEN/RED wire which I have ID as #904. 904 runs from ignition switch > gauge harness > old regulator.

Should I run a bypass wire from the 904 all the way to the Alts. "exciter" wire?

You can just connect the Light Green/Red wire to the I terminal on the starter motor relay if I'm not mistaken.

I assume it is the 904...but it stops at the voltage regulator...do I have to run it all the way to the other side of the bay? It's fun trying to upgrade systems in these, but can get quite frustrating.

yes, you would have to run it over there, unless you wanted to use one of the other colored wires that went to the old alternator that also came from the old voltage regulator. I wanted to be a little color-consistent, so I tapped the green/red wire before the connector at the voltage regulator and ran a green wire to the new alt connector.

thanks for the insight joe...i went with Rusty's thing and it is the "I" wire from the old alternator that I can use. On the diagram on the harness for the 1G alternator, the wire is #37....I now have the old external regulator disconnected and i have a 14.4 voltage running across the battery terminals at idle...thanks...almost done with the 3G conversion with alot of help from you guys.

O GOD one more thing...so i now have a battery drain.

All wires are hooked as they should be, so yesterday after confirming all wires are good, i reattached the negative battery cable and closed her up. Today i try to start (actually tonight, over 24 hours) and no juice, voltage drop over the battery terminals is 1.4 volts. The 3G I purchased is used and it was checked out at Kragans...did they not check the voltage regulator on it? Could the voltage regulator be bad and draining the battery as I sleep?
