3G up grade

I got rid of my 2G alternator and put in a new 3G do I need to up grade any wires? if so can I just run a 4ga. wire from post to pos. battery terminal to help with the load? or is there a better way of doind this THANKS for any ideas and help.

Jrichker has a couple of posts which he often puts out which pertain to the 3G upgrade.

Please do research things before installing the alternator - it would suck to have a fire.

Yes you definately do need to run different wire and from what I have heard, and also done, is to get rid of the two factory black and orange wires all together. Follow them back to where they go from two wires to one bigger wire and cut it there, also make sure the point where you cut it is not exposed. Then just run a #4 chunk of wire from the alt post to either that battery terminal or the starter relay. Also DO NOT forget to add some sort of fuse inline with this new power wire. For mine I used fusible links but make sure you use something, and never connect the two black and orange wires to the alt post, you could have a fire.
