3rd time a charm??

Has anyone else had to reinstall their lower intake manifold in order to stop it leaking on the ends? 1st time it leaked in the front. Reinstalled, and now it leaks in the back. Going on the 3rd time this week-end. I used RTV on the ends instead of the cork -- just like everyone said. This is really starting to piss me off...

if you buy your intake new or used? and is it a typhoon or a performer?

Because i would start looking into getting it check....also are you useing the right RTV there are different types

I used RTV on the ends instead of the cork

I just used a little bit of RTV on the sides of the cork gaskets and I had no leaks. Try to get a gasket set with rubber front and back pieces and use thoes. I use weather strip adhesive on the bottoms of the rubber pieces to hold them in place, and RTV in the corners to seal it off. I leave the top part of the gasket clean and dont use any RTV on it and I havent had an oil leak yet.

So who makes the gaskets with the rubber end pieces? Ive heard from others that the rubber pieces are bad, and to throw them away..

I really only want to do this one last time (at least for the leak!!!)

What is with everyone putting lowers on and getting leaks. When it says to put alot on the ends with no cork, that is what is means, alot. Do it again with some ultra black and let it sit over night to dry and it will be troble free.

Try this kit...It Fel-Pro MS93334....this kit has the rubber end seals...I have used only this kit and never had a leak...i actually re-used the rubbers 3 times over, still no leaks...these seals and some RTV in the corners...bout 1" long..

are you using 4 studs to locate the lower??? that will make things line up nicely and prevent the intake from being lope sided when you start to snug the bolts up...follow that tightening sequence and things should be mint....3 times over is a drag for sure...good luck..

Forgot to mention that this is a Eddy Performer intake -- if that makes any difference.

Did it with about 1/4" of black RTV. Scraped the surfaces first and then cleaned with mineral spirits to make sure it had no oil/grease. Used studs to set the lower so there was no sliding when putting the lower on. Followed the torquing pattern. Let it sit over-night. Only thing I didn't do was to swing a dead chicken over my head...

just fyi, synthetic or synthetic blend oil can eat away at ultra black rtv from what i have heard. i haven't seen it first hand, but i've heard it from a few sources.

Try a 1/2 inch of rtv.

So I think I am using the right one...
