ok im thinking about getting 4.10's in my 98 gt

so if I go from stock to 4.10 gears am I going to loose mpg? and how many more rpm's will I be running than with stock gears?

will it make a big difference on getting off the line faster?

is the engine gunna idle higher is my next question

There are some great videos, as well as gear ratio calculators in here:

What intentions do you have for mods in the future?
Will you stay N/A or are you going with Forced Induction sometime?
Have you done the PI swap?

You might put some of your mods in your sig to show your setup, so people know where you are coming from to help you best. :)

As far as you getting off the line "faster"--that is somewhat dependent on more than just gears. You will notice a seat of the pants gain, for sure with gears, but getting off the line faster involves weight transfer, traction, torque, etc.

I just bought my car a few and half month ago so all thats in it is a K&n air filter .. I was thinking about a BBK CAI and some type of exhaust sometime

as for forced induction if you mean t/c or s/c then no

You won't notice a decrease in mpg, or much any way. You'll actually
be able to use 5th gear if a standard. But you will have alot more fun
with it I assure you. Best thing I did was put 4.10s in mine. You will
be doing about 3000 rpm at 80mph. You will have to recalibrate your
speedo if you swap, just a warning.

4.10s are great. Your car will feel lighter and quicker. City driving is awesome. There is no effort to spin the tires, if that's what you want. I dropped my 1/8 ETs by 0.2 - 0.3. Expect more on the 1/4 mile.

Highway cruising will take a hit. Short bursts to 70-80 mph will feel great. You'll be up there quicker, and since you'll be around 3000 RPM, throttle response will be awesome. But holding 75-80 mph will suck after the first minute or two. Try cruising on the freeway at 3000 RPM. Use 3rd or 4th, whatever it takes. Hold that RPM on the highway for at least 5 mins. That's the worst part about 4.10s.

Enjoy!

Hey, when and if you decide to go with gears, let me know, I have a brand new Speedcal here waiting for you. I'll sell it to you cheap. That is the thing you need to convert your guages to read right with the new gears.
I have had 4.10s and have loved them. Even with all my mods, I still get 20mpg on the freeway.

I usually cruise around 2700-2900 on the freeway. Once a week I drive about 40-50 miles one way for work. It doesnt bother me much, since I usually have the tunes cranking. Just remember redline comes alot faster. Ive bounced off the rev limiter a couple times while gettin er sideways or messing with newer Camaro's on freeway on-ramps. I'll probly get a LED shift light to hide behind a vent. I cruise around town in 4th alot. The only drawback I have noticed is that 4th tops out at around 115 MPH. And altho 5th is alot more useful when wanting to accelerate a 6 speed with a .80 5th and .62 6th is what Im looking at for my next mod. Im more into open track and auto-x. But with the 4.10's and MGW shifter I can chirp 3rd with 285/40 tires. I got Motive gear 4.10's from mustantg tuning but I will never order from them again due to a bad experience that happened in November that still hasn't been resolved. The actual 4.10's shouldnt affect mileage much. But I did 4.10's, O/R H pipe, and new shifter in one month, and now I cant keep my foot out of it...
