You are going to ruin your tranny if you don't get things calibrated. Read this in MM&FF.

and by the time you get going that fast, the guy is going to be so far behind you that it wont matter.. for instance, my buddies GTA will pull on my at highway speeds.. but i roll him soo bad of the line (5-6 cars) that me being in OD dosnt matter at that point.

what should i get recalibrated beside the speedo and such? no matter what gears i choose i will end up getting the rebuild/overhaul kit for the rear end and the speedo cal. anything else i need to look into? as far as driveability goes...i know the car will be insane on the highway. i dont spend too much time beyond 65-70 when i am driving somewhere anyways. i just want the car to launch good and have good response on the highway. will it pull harder on the highway at cruising speeds if you have it in 4th or 5th?

the calibration is easy. when u buy the gears, get the little speedo piece that goes into your tranny that cooresponds with the gears you bought. you are all done then! if you are an automatic, then you will need a programmer to change it.
the speedo gear takes like 5 secs to change :)

I've had BOTH in my car, and its an auto (which didn't have the luxury of 5 gears). I still pulled 20 MPG's on the highway with 4.30's, and they were MEAN as hell!!!!

I say get teh 4.30's and a speedo gear while you're at it. You won't regret it.

It really depends on where you live. I live in Orange County,CA where most city streets are 50mph zones. Things are pretty spread apart. Highway traffic flows at 70-80. I cruise in 5th at 75mph@ approx.2550rpm with 3.73's. 2600@ eighty. Now that may not seem like much, but 5th gear is your overdrive, and 4th has more range then a 4.10, especially a 4.30.

If you drag the car regularly, and use slicks at the track, go with 4.30's. Not daily moderate distance commuter worthy.

If you go to the track(drag) sometimes, or are a show off(loudest exhaust) type of person get the 4.10s. Not as friendly in long sistance driving as a 3.73 because of engine noise.

If you auto-x, and/or street drive the car daily, moderate distances(50-100miles, round trip), or occasional long distances, get 3.73's.

Everyone has their preferance, so add up what you wanna do with the car and go from there. I love my 4:10's w/Dr's (you are gonna need them) and I drive my stang every weekend sometimes during the week on nice days. 5th gear at 70mph 2300 RPM's I still get pretty good gas mileage. But on highway racing I can still hit 152 mph in 5th (done it once) with 4:10's not sure with .30's. Know difference in speed you just get there faster. Plus my programmer turned off the speed limiter and the rev's are set at 6300 R's which I topped off at 152 mph.

GTsleeper, where do you shift at w/o rev limiter. I have a Diablosports cmr tuning and noticed it feels stronger at 6k then it used to.[/QUOTEI

I meant to say my speed limiter is turned off, and now I have the rev limiter set at 6300 R's its safer that way. At one time I just wanted to see how fast I can get my stang with 4:10's to prove some people wrong so I had both the speed limiter and rev limiter turned off. I usually shift at 5200 R's but after some studies and the mods I have I shift at 6000. And yes your right it definently feels stronger at 6000 thats why my rev limiter is set at 6300 R's so I don't blow the engine. I am thinking about getting a shift light installed somewhere in my vents to improve track times.
