4.10 Question(already searched, not what you think)

You'll have more torque in every gear thanks to the gears, the problem is that horsepower is a measure of how much torque gets done over a period of time. So once you get up to speed and into the power band its more important how fast you use that torque, not how much you have - if that makes any sense - Im at a loss on how to better explain it.

So basically, you're gonna be accelerating just as fast from 60-120 with either gear installed - assuming you're operating in the same RPM band.

The biggest thing about gears is the extra torque getting the car moving from a stop or near stop. Once you get past that most of the leverage advantage you get from gears is gone.

I don't think i agree completely with this. I used my g-meter before and after gear swap, and the g's are quite a bit higher in all gears with the 4.10's than with stock. %th becomes like 4th was. The problem with the logic stated above (which is correct really) is that you are assuming that hp and trq is the same across the entire rpm range. This, of course is not true. The 4.10's have the ability to help you use the power band better.

BTW, I know you were racing at the track, right? My response to this thread assumes that you were racing legally at a track.

The other thing to consider is this. When I had my 3.27's, 3rd gear at 60 - 65 mph was a real hoot. With 4.10's at 60 - 65, you really need to put it in 4th and you don't get quite the same g's, BUT at higher speeds the 4.10's seem better. You may have beat your buddy had the race started at a different speed.

I agree with Go Ho TO! I have an 03 GT as well and with the 3:27 at 60-65 just drop it in 3rd is a hoot. I just installed my 4:10's and yes it is a world of difference. This should of been my first mod above anything else. Yes the x-pipe w/cats I received from SLP are nice but the difference with the gears is unbelievable. Just for some advice definently get a set of drag radials you will need them. Any questions about your 4:10's just click on the name and reply.

5th gear is finally useful with 4.10s. When I had them in my GT, it was nice to be cruising along the highway at 60 in 5th, and if I needed to pass someone, I didn't always have to drop a gear to do so.

That being said, you'll blow through 1st and 2nd pretty quick: great for the holeshot. But once you get to 5th, you may run out of gear depending on how fast you go up til.
