i'm putting in 4.10 next week and have a trip to mustang week planned. someone told me long drives will heat up the rear end more at high rpm's. that dosen't make much sense to me, but i thought i would ask some people who actually have them.

I would attribute that to the faster rotation inside the transmission. Higher RPMs. If you have switched to 4.10s and still maintain your usual highway speeds, you're spinning the drivetrain faster.
