4.10's = Too much gear for autos?

I figure the time will come REALLY QUICK to start discussing gear ratios for the 05's. I know Fox AOD owners where thrilled to slap on 4.10's and AODE owners with their 4.10, 4.30, 4.56 N/A cars. Gears alone dramatically changed the output on such cars.

Fortunately...the 05' GTs are equipped with a 5-speed ATX. The current Hot Rod magazine states the drop from 1st to 2nd is only 1000 rpm. 2nd to 3rd only 1500 rpm. Clearly keeping the power in it's band. But- if this car is running out of 3rd at the end of the track, it kinda makes me wonder. Since gears and exhaust usually being the first mods we make... how limited will we be?

Any thoughts

I have to answer this with a question. Isn't the transmission the T-3650? If so, the gear ratios are the same as the '01.5-'04. The car will benefit from the same ratios as are acceptable for these years. In my opinion, whatever it comes with stock, it needs two steeper gears. If it comes with 3.27's then AT LEAST go with 3.73's (I would go 4.10's). There is just no substitute for 4.10's. This may help your decision some. Go to http://www.links-scorecard.com/Gears.htm and use my Gear Calculator. it should be already set up for the T-3650 transmission. Change the RPM's to redline at 6000, and change the tire size to become the '05 GT.

The T-3650 is the manual tranny. I'm talking about the 5-speed Automatic. IF I were to get an 05' it would be an auto. This is a totally new auto correct? Maybe someone can chip in on this...

and yeah, there's no subsitute for 4.10's. It's like an addiction for me to go the 3200 stall + 3.73's route. So how do other's think about this? Is it possible with these cars or you think overkill?

Thanks

You have to keep in mind that the tires on the 2005 are significantly larger in diameter.

When you correct for tire diameter, 4.10s are really only like 3.87 gears on a 99-04 Stang.

The 5R55 - 5 speed auto came out in 1999 on the Lincoln LS and Jag S. In 2003 it was updated, but is about 85% the same as the 1999 version.
