4:10s too tall for an auto?

tried searching for the answer but the search only lets you put in one word(or sarches for the last word typed) I have a 97 auto. ive heard different comments here and there, so im not sure now. seems like everyone who gets gears goes through this indecision though

4.10 are perfect, some consider 4.30s

so 410s are like 373s in a manual? thats what i think ive figured from reading difrent posts.

i took the 410 out cause at 70mph the rpms were like 2700 and annoying, remember u have a 4 speed tranny, a 5 speed would have a 5th OD gear like the manuals and u can quiet it up

i put the 373's back in

just my opinon

Are the 97 stock gears 2.73's. Just wondering cause I had an 01 GT auto with 3.twenty somethings (forgot already) and put some 4.10's in. It was very nice, accleration was much improved and on the freeway was out of the flowmaster drone area. But I was kinda wishing I went with 4.30's but was planning on s/c'ing it before I traded it in. Either way go for at least 4.10's.

I believe the 97's are 2.73's i know that the 96's was..

yea, your prolly right. im on LI too, so I use the hiways 65-75 is cruisin. more like 65 cause of all the new cops
BTW-noticed yove used mustang magic. how are they. im lookin into a 5.4 swap sometime this summer,do you know if thats something theyd handle?

I'm not sure what ratio the overdrive gear is in an auto, but I remember that the old AOD was taller than the T-5. Either way, if it were me, 4.10's all the way!

I had an 2000 auto gt and when I got 3.73s I could barely feel the difference. Yes your rpms are going to cruise a lot higher but I'd suggest going with the 4.10s with your automatic if your really looking for performance gains.

4.10s in an auto, no doot aboot it

I thought u had an option of 2.73 or 3.27s in the 96s, but maybe not on the auto, I know some of the manuals had this option

GotMustangs, living in lovely wet Washington state I was wondering if 4:10 would be too much for a daily driver. As fun as it would be when dry, would it be too easy to break 'em loose when it's wet?

Anybody out there in another rainy state have issues with 4:10's in the rain?

NO less than 4.10's in an auto....anything else is a waste.
