4.10s vs 3.73s and opinions on the best shifter

what are the best gears for a 5 speed 95 mustang gt. also anybody have any recommendations for a good shifter?

If just street driveing N/A car, I say 4:10, with Pro 5.0 shifter.

i have had both ....

for a daily driver with a stick shift, i very much preferred the 3.73s. with 4.10s, first gear is totally useless. at neighborhood speeds, they put you right in that no-man's land where the rpms are higher than you want for 2nd, and a little too low for 3rd. i spend alot of time going through neighborhoods, and it got old pretty quickly. and cruising at 70 on the highway put me at a higher rpm than i liked as well.

but the acceleration in 3rd was great fun with 4.10s. for a daily driver though, for me, the negatives did not outweigh the positives.

now if it is not a daily driver, then that changes things ...

i stuck with the stock shifter, so i cannot offer any opinions there

The difference is about 275rpm between the two. The 4:10's are pretty steep and first gear is over very quickly. Although they will put you in the seat pretty good. At 75MPH you will be well over 3000 rpm. For racing naturally aspirated they are the best. You won't go wrong with 3:73's either. Pretty much the norm for all Mustangs.

As for a shifter-Pro5.0, Steeda, etc. all make quality units.

You can't really go wrong with either. Personally, I like the 3.73's, but I am on the highway for a good bit of my drive so I felt that was the best choice for me (even with the automatic).

My personal opinion...for a stock or near stock street car I would go with 3.55's or 3.73's. The 4.10's are more for high revving engines, which our 5.0's are definitely not in stock form. Another thing to keep in mind is that the stock T5 will only accept a speedo gear up to 3.55 so your speedometer will be off slightly with 3.73's and way off with 4.10's.

Easy answer; 3.73 axle gears, MGW shifter, and 21-tooth purple speedo gear with 7-tooth drivegear on tranny tailshaft to correct the speedo.

Ive had 3.55's, 3.73's and have 4.10's now and those are my favorite. I would not want them for a DD but for what I use my car for they are great. Ive had the steeda Tri Ax and currently have a Pro 5.0 and I like them both but I really do want to get an MGW.

This will correct the MPH Error with 3.73 or 4.10s

I've always been a fan of the B&M Ripper. I've had almost every shifter in one Mustang or another and I keep coming back to the Ripper. I think the recent ones don't have stops in them for over shifting though, so I can't recommend it.
