So cal
Who has had 4.30 in a D/D w/5-speed and regreted it.....Heres my situation, I had 4.10s in my other stang with the same mods, i loved them, I love them so much, but I want alittle more acceleration. I have 3.55 now and they suck. I NEVER drive on the freeway....I drive 4-5 mile to and from school and work which is 5 miles away also....I want 4.30's would this be worth it with my mods....Im done modding for a while now and I have 500 bucks left to do gears....my friends wree telling me that it would just wind up way too fast, and you'd be changing gears more that being in gear....Ah hell I think ill just get the 4.30's, also they said when going to 4.30 ill have to get a 4 series carrier...I dont think this is true cause I had 4.10s in my other car , and the gear just went in perfect...honestly I was disapointed with the 4.10's when I first got them, everyone makes them out to be too much gear, I had big expactaions with them and they kinda let me down....Will 4.30's make me happy? OR will I be disapointed because it too much gear. BTW im going to run a 27" tire, and will I get even better gas milage with 4.30's in the city.

I run 4.56's in my DD. They work great with my combo. The 4.30's should be fine. I am not sure the will make you happy, but I guess there is only one way to find that out :D They will go right on your current carrier without a problem.

A 27'' tire is only about 1.2xx inches taller than a stock tire, so it makes those 3.55's you have feel like 3.27's...so i know why you hate them. I have 3.73's with stock size tires and they are perfect. There are a lot of guys on here with 4.30's in their 5 spds and they love em. So 4.30's will be like 4.10's with the larger tire...so if you were honestly dissapointed in the 4.10's in your other car what makes you think it will be any different in this on? have you thought about or calculated your RPM at the 1/4 mile mark with 4.30's? what are your other mods and ET? Are you running slicks when you go to the track, if not i would not expect any traction in first or second!! the carrier wont be a problem good luck man

I run 14.4@98 on street tires with 2.2 60' times on street tires...heres the setup 89' LX Hatch 5 spd. Comp cams cam, BBk shortie headers, off road H-pipe, Flowmaster, 3.55 Gears, Pro 5.0 shifter, Pulleys,70mmTB, CAI,no smog pump, no air, Elec fan....Im going to run a 26' tall tire with 4.30's, I have a feeling ill love them...since I only drive in the city, i can just put it in 5th and cruise at around 2000rpm and save some gas....also If its too much gear I can always run a taller tire, that will help with traction also...im keeping my options open...the car is going to stay N/A so it will be perfect.

4.30s here with my 10-1 306 with stock hci. I drive 60 miles a day to and from work on the highway and have 0 regrets. I get easily 250miles to the tank averaging 2500 on the interstate. This is on 10 holes with 235/60/15 Michelin Pilots.

Every now and then, I'll throw the 26X10 Et Streets and take the long "city" route home for some stoplight action.

I say get em.

People say this and people say that, people hear this and hear that.... what I am trying to say is what exactly are they running and what kind of driver are they. Probally the same one's that say that removing the swaybar and/or going manual steering makes the car undrivable. I'm going with at least a 4.30 minimal when I get my setup togeather. Four series carrier??? Are these GM owners??? Maby you should try a full spool as well. Unstreetable to some but those with them seem to love them.

Once you put some real power down, your traction on regular street tires will be nearly 0.

Save the money and put it towards heads.

Trust me, you don't want opinions from only people that have something you are thinking about getting. The opinion becomes biast. Most on stangnet say they have things and suggest them to others, not because it works, but because they've become emotionally attached to them.

As i feel 3.55's aren't enough, i feel 4.30's are too much. 4.10's and 3.73's would be optimal.

When i had a stock geared t5, once i got the work done to my car, with regular street tires on it, with the 3.73's, 1st and 2nd were useless. Especially if i got a bit anxious.

You have a car that runs high 14's now, and probably with traction low 14's. Not a race car. 4.30's will probably feel better, but you'll be going no where fast.

Do it now, and you'll have a 14 second car with 4.30s, i'm sorry, but that's just not smart.

Hey man, your band sounds good. Just figured i'd let you know ;) The chick on vocals sounds like the vocals from the band kittie. I requested you as a friend on myspace ;)

If you're gonna run a 27" tire you're gonna kill that 3.55 gear. The 4.30's and 27" tire should work well. But IMO i'd just stay with what you have.

My car needs a set of 4.10/4.30's but in due time ;)

I have 4.10's in the 82 now, and I drive it to work occasionally, and love the launch. I had the 4.56 axle in it for a month and loved it even more. I took it out because the numbers I ran said it would be at or over 6000 rpm at 100 to 108 mph or so at the big end of the track. With the 4.10, I trapped 106 with the tach buried at the 6, so I think that was the right move.

The 4.56 runs just as smoothly at 55 on the road and 100 at the track as the 4.10.

All this is with a C4 and no overdrive.

Gear ratios I've had:

3.73-306,ported e7s,.493.510 212/222, Stealth intake, 650dp-ok on street, sux on strip

3.55-306,165,FTI cam, Stealth, Bigs 650-sux big time

3.73-same as above-better on street but still sux i've cussed at the monster tach several times telling it to hurry up

4.30-same 165combo-perfect, maybe .56s if it wasn't dd

4.30-1st efi car-306-stock hci-couldn't be happier, hci coming

N/A 4 life mostly run 1/8mi. Sorry I'm a lil biast:)
