The compressor on my '04 Roush is going out. Are the compressors from all 99-04 'stangs the same. Or was there a difference between the years, or maybe between v6's and v8's? Also, could you use the compressor that comes in the 4.6 crown vic's? I'm clueless....Any suggestions?
Any idea how much they are new???

Well I don't think it's the whole compressor, but isn't there a clutch or something in it. See what happened is a had a period when I rode with the a/c on and windows down and now you can here the compressor kick on and start to make a rattling sound (repeats very often). The reason I know it's the a/c is because when you turn the a/c off, the rattling is continuous and doesn't stop.
It's the clutch. New ones are about 150. If you have the tools you can swap it out.

The leak should be noticable and just swapping the clutch requires no evacuating the cooling system and recharge. I've had mine in with no issues for a good while. Plus I looked up the clutch and it is 100 instead of 150.The problem with that is that a complete new compressor at Advanced is $166. When the clutch goes, there is a good chance it overheated in the process, which can cause the front compressor shaft seal to leak as well. After a new clutch, you still have the leak.
The clutch is a quick install, but it might be wasted. Clutches are getting harder to find as well, probably because getting the air gap takes some time and most are not set properly causing the new clutch to fail quickly.
