4.6 Dohc anyone

what year, how many k? and how much? id be interested if the price is right..

grahm, its a lower hp version of the DOHC, diffrent cams and intake than the cobra, they come in a few power configurations depending on the year, the highest being 295 hp if its "i think" 99 up.. for an 04 i wouldnt reccomend changing it, you wont gain much power and its possibly way older.

changing them over isnt a huge deal, but its not easy either...

new exaust, motor mounts (i think) and you either need to have a chip calibrated for the DOHC, or use the DOHC computer., the wiring harness will most likely need to be either modified or changed as well.

Ya, I guess with a motor with 7k on it I'm probably okay, 2Vs can make a lot of power anyway. The exhaust is basically the same, just the headers are different, and since I have an SCT ship it could be reprogrammed for a 4V. But I think you're right that it probably wouldn't be worth it.

that and a 4v isnt really any better for making power stock anyways, the heads do flow more, wich makes power easier, but all DOHC engines except the 03-04 cobra, have the same ****ty pistons and rods than the GT, and being that they start with more power, they are easier to blow up with mods than the GT motors..

not to mention 1300 for cams :nonono: plus like 500 for valve springs :nonono: ..

the only way id take it, is if it was the newer, 295 hp version, that way you wont have to tear into it right away..

also depending on wich motor it is, it might have the B heads not the C heads that the 99+ cobras come with.. wich dont make as much power as the said cobras.

don't forget the forged crankshaft and aluminum block... and sheesh you guys since when have you been afraid of a cam and intake swap. Bottom line a dohc 4.6 is better than a sohc 4.6 any day of the week. OH and the extra 1500 rpm worth of red line doesnt hurt either :P.

I agree, I'd love to have a 4V. If I were closer i'd probably come check it out. How many clicks on tha puppy? Anyone know?

Older 4V's didn't have the forged crank. Intake swap? To what? Any intake worth swapping to requires new heads. Cam swap? LOL,phone Graham (the mechanic) and ask him how much fun it is to swap cams on my engine(he's still working on it 7 days later). I'd hate to put anyone through a full 4 cam swap.

What year is the Mark VIII? The Mark VIII was made from 93 - 98. 93 - 95 was a Gen I, 96 - 98 was a Gen II. The Mark VIII is very similar motor wise to the 96 - 98 Cobra. Also if it is a 96+ Mark, the HP rating was 280 for the base and 290 for the LSC, the difference was the factory tune, same motor though. How many KMs? How much are looking to get for it?

Thats why I am planning on taking mine to the best. MPH in Alpharetta GA baby!

When the time comes, it will be a long block, cams, smaller pulley and a nice tune.

Correction...Gen I's are from '93-'96, Gen II's are from '97-'98. And all Mark's VIII's were rated at 280hp (290LSC), not just the '96-up. :)

And for those interested, the swap is neither easy, nor cheap. Have fun :)

I might be wrong on the generations, but 93 - 95 were an EEV-IV car and 96 - 98 were EEC-V. That is what I based my info off of.

According to the modular godfather "SHM", 93-98 blocks are Teksid and 99-04 are the Windsor blocks. The Teksid blocks can handle at least 900 horse and the later blocks may only handle about 600. 93-98 includes the Mark 8 and cobras, 99-04 includes the cobras, marauder and the Mach 1. Teksid blocks are about 85 lbs and the Windsors are 80 lb. and a little bit weaker. FYI.

Only some of the '99 GT's had Windsor motors as the remainder from '99-'04 had Romeo's. To tell look at the id tag in the car's engine bay (left fender..)if there is a W in it as in 1FW.....then it is a Windsor.

Correction.....'99 and '00 2V Mustang engines were designated "Windsor's" all others have been designated "Romeo's" (although there seem to be one or two that slip by in either account). All 4V blocks regardless of the year are classified as "Romeo" engines. The earlier block castings were cast by Teksid (in Italy), their cranks were forged by Gertach in Germany, but all were built in Michigan by 2-man teams in Fords Romeo plant. :)
