I have an 85 ranger thats a project and want to put a carburated 4.6 in it. Can anyone give me some info on what you have to do to carburate one, of if i was to leave it fuel injection what all would i need from the crown vic. Its just a stock 4.6 out of a crown vic.

leave it fuel injected, its too hard, plus to much of a step backwards to carb it. jsut get the fuel system and computer from the vic. what year vic are you getting it from? i have a 2000 GM btw.

as much as i love carb'd vehicles, i still think fuel injection has an edge. Leave it be!

ya, i love carbs, i love the sound of a 302 with a lopey aass cam and a 800+cfm demon carb at idle, but fuel injection is soo much better for reliability and performance. plus there arent the inherent annoying problems with fuel injection that carbs have. retuning the idle screws, rebuilding it, losing that stupid clear gasket on the filter, plus most fuel injection systems have a baro sensor so you dont have to adjust for altitude.

Well, not to hijack the thread or anything, but has anyone put a 4.6 into a newer one? This sounds like a cool idea if you could make it fit. Imagine a Mach 1 powered ranger....can we say sleeper?

When I had my 97 Ranger I looked at doing this. But the only problem I understood doing this was the 4.6 is to wide, could not fit it. Correct me if I am wrong

302 will go in there and 351 is suppose to fit. Any which way you go it will be fun

This guy is correct it wont fit, it wont fit between the frame rails and the firewall is in the way to. A 302 fits perfect and a 351 fits great with a lil massaging to the firewall. Im pretty sure you would have to go tube frame u p front to get it to fit. I would just do the 302 or 351 less work and theres already plenty of aftermarket for conversion headers and motor mounts etc etc.

If you could find a wrecked 5.0 Mustang and swap the engine, trans. You would have most of what you would need to do the swap from the Stang except motor mounts etc.
It be a nice little truck. Reliable too. Thinking it may be a good idea to strengthen the frame a bit though, and put heavier springs in the front.
