4.6 rebuild, good shops

The engine was hydro locked and now after draining everything, it needs a rebuild.

Not wanting to tackle this thing because I've got too many other projects going right now, to have this one strewn about. What are some good shops to get some quotes from in the Renton or Seattle area?

IMO I wouldn't go with a 4V unless it had a roots or twin screw sitting atop it. In N/A form it's a gutless wonder, I'd much rather have a 2V or perhaps the new 3V (not sure if that's a feasible swap into an SN95, though).

Not sure why a 4V would be a gutless wonder, 320hp from a 281ci engine is nothing to be ashamed of, but a built 2V may be a better choice money wise. I'd thought about a 4V swap, but that's probably not going to happen as for I have a different idea.

Well, you also had an 03 cobra with a Roots blower, so that's probably about the best your going to see from a 4V 4.6 as far as tq goes. But Corey is right, with right gears on these motors the tq will come back on the lower end, but they are more a mid range tq curve.

I guess I'm just alittle confused as to why you'd rather have a 2 or 3V motor over a 4V?

In my experience the extra airflow and its associated murder of low-RPM velocity is real annoying. You can make up for it with gears, yes, but where is the payoff? I'd bet a bolt-on 2V has more area under the curve than a 4V unless you're spinning some serious RPM. And for sure we know the 3V does. The 4V can make good peak numbers, but I don't care about peak ;).

Of course the best option would be to ditch the silly modular and drop in a nice pushrod motor :rlaugh: :jester:. 408W FTW!
