I have searched and cant find a DIY thread on replacing the starter. Was looking under it today and how the heck do you get to the top bolts. Its on a 99 Gt..

there is a total of 3 bolts. My bottom two, I used 2 extensions to reach them straight on and the top one, I did by feel and used a small open wrench. The top one took some time.

Yes. Top bolt sucks. Don't put it back in when you put the new starter in. I've never had an issue leaving it out.

I use a 13mm "flex" 6 point socket and a long extension. Route the extension through the k-member. For the first time a buddy is a big help. Position the socket on the top bolt by feel. Have the buddy turn the handle.

Example:

Don't use a standard U-joint socket as it is too thick. The built in flex socket has the correct mix of size and stiffness to do the job. Once you understand how everything is put together the job is a PIA but not nearly so much.

another trick is a stubby wrench and a chain to pull down on to break it loose.
