4.6L SOHC Motorcraft Plugs..What's number?

Just want the Motorcraft part number for a stock replacement plug. 2001 Mustang GT 4.6L SOHC 2V engine. I don't care about any other brand or any heat range, just stock.

What is the stock gap? .054 like the old 5.0L's?

I am gonna buy some stockers at Autozone/Murrays and I don't want the guys there to give me the wrong ones. Some of them are not wrapped to tight.

AWSF-32 , .054. You can get them in copper, etc. I use to run the NGK TR-55's when I was N/A.. Best plugs to use IMO.

Now...you have changed yours before I assume. No blowout problems like I have read so many people having in here? I know to torque them and all that, but I just want to know what you did, because I know you have modded your car a lot. Thanks again.

BTW...My tuner shop is www.alternativeauto.com and they even recommened this Champion plug and said it was really good as well.
 
Stocks are platinum. Copper give you better performance but you have to change them once a year. I work on my car once a month at least, so that aint no big thing to me.

I have never had a blow out problem. I am going to get flammed for this, but I dont torque my plugs. I use a SMALL bit of anti-seize on them and get them tight. I dont over tighten them, but I get them tight. Usually its a 1/8 - 1/4 turn past 13ft lbs. I usually torque EVERYTHING, even my damn lug nuts! But it just doesnt feel right torqueing those down to 13ft lbs...

The only plugs I would ever use are motocraft and NGK. They both have the extended threads that the old stockers didnt have. The main problem lies in the head not having enough threads, but I still think the longer section of threads on the plug helps.

That is what my tuner shop told me. Do NOT torque them, just tighten them up like any other job. Use a little bit of antiseeze. They also said, to spray some Brakleen in the holes and then blow them out with compressed air before removing them. They claim they have never had one blow out, and never never had one come back blown out. And they supercharge many of the cars too.

But, what you are saying is the your think you tighten them more than 13lbs?

I would also think that blowing the holes with air with the plugs out would be good too, because you may loosen some crap up when taking them out.
 
i dont know if your dealer is like mine, but we have stopped using that spark plug numbering system. we use the new style. there are 2 choices for you application, the "nickel alloy" plus is SP-413. the double platnium is SP-493.

torque to 15ft-lbs with engine cold, and recheck after a week. gap to .054" as stated on your emissions label.
 
SP-493's are the stock plug for my car.

Double platnium and longer threads.


Yes i know platnium sucks, but the stock ignition was designed for it and I'm lazy and don't feel like changing them often
 
I used the 32C copper plugs and even after 30k miles they were only worn down a little. They were still running strong. So unless you drive the crap out of your car then changing them every year is a little excessive. I only changed them at 30k because my OCD tells me that between 25-30k I must replace the plugs whether they're perfect or not.
