I bought a 91 Mustang notch with a 4 cyl, auto, and I just finished installing a stock 5.0L 5 speed motor, trans, and harness. I used all of the 4 cylinder front suspension, and rear axle (7.5). Anyways, when I am finished painting the car, I want to do a 5 lug conv. on it. I will use 94-95 Mustang spindles, rotors, hubs, and 99-04 calipers, brackets, and hoses.

Question #1: Will the 94-95 spindles bolt up to the ball joint on a 4cyl control arm?. I know they will on a 8cyl control arm.

Question # 2: Should I use 2 left side 92 and older Ranger rear axle shafts? I will be keeping the 7.5 rear axle for now, because I have already done a ton of work to the car. The reason for this question, is in the June 2006 issue of 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords, it looks as if they used 94-98 Mustang rear axle shafts. They say they are longer, and that they are switching the brakes to disc, but I will be keeping the drum brakes. Will they still work? They used junk yard parts, and that's what I am using.

Any information you guys can provide should help me out.

#1, control arms are the same no probs there.

#2, if you are running rear drums, the ranger axles or the FMS 5-lug drum kit is what you want. SN95 axles are only to be used with disks. The ranger axles can later be adapted to SN95 disks later if you choose by purchasing the North Race Car's rear disk brackets which are designed to use GT/V6 10.5" rotors or Cobra 11.65" rotors with the ranger axles.

Cool. Thank you for the reply. That's what I was thinking, but I wanted a second opinion from someone in the 5.0 forum. I haven't had a 5.0L in a few years.

Do yourself a favor and get some SN-95 ball joints and press them into your control arms. It's easy to do while you have everything out and you won't have to slap washers or spacers on your old stuff in order to make it work. Autozone loans the press tool for a deposit. I would go with the ranger axles as stated above. Your tire/wheel selection will be better than going with the SN-95 axles.

Thanks for your reply. I want to go with FR500 Wheels, the car I am painting is going from maroon to black, so I want to go with the black or anthricite FR500's. Those will fit no problem right?

I would go ahead and do the SN ball joints as mentioned, while you already have everything apart.....However going through the conversion with the 7.5 will be, in my opinion, a complete waste of time. You already plan on swapping in an 8.8 so I would avise you to hold off on the 5 lug swap untill you find an 8.8..thenyou could put your choice of gears and the proper axles in while its off the car and just stick it in? Just my thoughts to save you from doing the work twice..

I agree. I am just trying to get the car looking great this year, and driving great. OVer the winter I will start modding her a little. I already have my Cobra, I just wanted this car because I can do all the work on it myself, have little money in it, and have 4cyl insurace. I want to go 8.8, but I don't have one right now. MY donor car it was broken.
