check out www.mpgheads.com for a motor mount and header swap kit.

It really depends what car you are starting with. I6, small block or FE.

Well since no mustang prior to 1971 came with a 385 series 429 it's not easy to put one in those cars. Hence the link to mpgheads.com because they provide the components necessary to make it happen. Sure you can make mounts yourself but it's not easy trying to fab up mounts while that monster is on the hook. I don't think the average weekend wrench could build an exhaust to fit within the confines of the early shock towers. If you want easy then go with a windsor pick your size and drop it in.

No you don't

Is there anybody out there???????? This is the third and last time I am going to post on this.

www.MPGHEADS.com sells a kit that doesn't require you to remove the shock towers. If you look around their website you will find what you need to know. Since it seems that won't happen here is a direct link.

Great link Rhyno9. It's certainly not cheap. I would also ask if you could change spark plugs without unbolting the engine.
Personally, I would go with a stroked 351W for almost the same displacement, less weight and therefore better handling.

I like the standard stroke 351 personally. Either that or a dart based 347 for added spark plug clearance.

THe 429 will drop right in . I did the same thing in the 80's to a 67 coupe. 429 out of a 69 tbird. Had to use the stock exhaust manifolds and a c6.

The car ran like a raped ape. the hood closed and NOOOBODY had any idea what was sitting next to them at the lights.

Ford Power Parts in Norwalk Ca. made the engine brackets and I used a very flat flex fan for the narrow gap between the nose of the WP and the radiator.

Now for the downside. The 429 has gobbs of low end torque and the car will feel phenomenal, however, you can get more power, better performance out of a nicely worked small block w/ FI today and not be saddled with such a heavy motor and bad gas mileage.

Shock towers are not in the way for this (or a 460) swap. The engine is tall and skinny.

BTW - I uesd to always race this same idiot on rooselvelt blvd with a brand new (at the time) 86 Grand National. The 2 cars were about dead even which used to frustrate the hell out of him, since my mustang looked like such a POS.

PS - I have not been able to find the post, but someone on one of the other forums ran a 69 429 on a chassis dyno in a 67 mustang and it had 237 rear wheel hp. (FWIW)

there is a member here who has a 429 in a 67. His user name is

67GTA-FB429

ask him if he will share the benefit of his experience with you.

You can do it. It is a big PITA, though. You can change the plugs and everything. If I could do it all over again, I would consider a 351 stroked to 408 or 427.

But it looks and sounds awesome. And has gobs of power.

The 385 series fits. Exhaust is a bit of a challenge but it fits fine. My high school autoshop had a drag car which was a 67 with a 460 in it.

Instead of a 429 why not go with a 460. Same size and with some head work it ought to scream. No replacement for displacement.

I have two 429/460 Stangs and love the big blocks. Yes it's easy to do. Yes it runs great. Yes you can easily do maintenance and yes, I'd do it again. Small blocks look puny to me. My current blown 460 has over 800 HP for my 67. Stock 429's came with 370 or so HP, so I have no idea how someone could have 200 HP unless it was running on 5 cylinders.

Just do the swap.
It fits, you just have to get swap headers for the most part.
My only suggestion beyond that is use a 460 over the 429.
31 cubes is huge.
