429bb with auto or toploader 4 speed?

Sometimes you can get deals on TLs, but not often. I usually see them for $400-900 depending on condition. $700+ is used Tremec territory.

Like Thumper said, original bigshaft Toploaders are uncommon and highly desirable(read:EXPENSIVE). David Kee Toploaders has every part imaginable for them, even brand new assembled transmissions. You also need to be aware of the first gear ratio like Thumper also said. A 2.32 first is a close ratio trans. It has a tall first and 2-3-4 are close together. A more common 2.78 first is a wide ratio trans which is easier to drive on the street with sub-3.89 rear gears. A 429/460 probably wouldn't have trouble with the 2.32 first, though.

i give up. i cant find what i want and i cant get any good quotes on rebuilding a trans. so, it would be easier to go with a tko600, although more money. i dont want to, but i aint gonna fight it anymore. :bang:

If you want to ship both ways.. ( 150 lbs) I will O/H one for you for 100.00!! PLUS parts of course!! See if you can find the cost and availablity for: 2nd gear/ 3rd gear/ 3-4 sync / and the four blocker rings !! Also a small parts kit!! If you need those parts.. cool, they go in.. if not they will be for when you do need them!! Just a thought!! I use all my TC for spare parts..lol ( or parts to be moded by Liberty) Bummer , yes!!

now then, im also gonna need things like clutch/press plate, throw out bearing, clutch fork, linkage, shifter and scatter shield too. so round up all the parts and prices and ill pay for the shipping of the trans AND all the other stuff at the same time.

i will owe you a great deal for doing this. name your price..... short of my wife, my kids or my car... well we might come to an agreement on the wife....:rlaugh:

thanks Thumper

Instead of "fighting" it, just settle back and shop around. See which parts are more available and at prices you are willing to pay.

Are you talking about rebuilding a Tremec or a Toploader or an automatic? A Toploader is fairly straitforward. About the only job that really needs special tools is changing bearings.

Thumper's offer is a good one, but I'm a die hard DIYer. :D

Cool.. that kit on E-bay is the right stuff, and the cost is less than the 70's prices!!
Just when you ship the trans.. make sure that smelly gear oil is all out... man that stuff stinks!! LOL

PS: I was shown how to rebuild the TC on a tire in the back yard by a great friend in So. Ca. back in the 70's. DYI is always cool.. but some times help is needed!!
There is nothing like "stabing/steering/ and shifting... the real Drag race"

i like the DIY thing but im not secure enough in my abilities in transmissions to do one and trust it. so, ill leave it up to a pro to do it for me. i can do brakes, suspension and electrical all myself. but the rearend and trans. is not my area. im even going to have the bottom end of the 429 done for me. after all the guy gave me a 3 mo. guarntee on his work.... in writing even. as long as i dont use any N2O on it, im good. besides hes a good friend of mine so i aint gonna take advantage of his good nature.

but other than that, its all on me to build.

thumper, im sure, has everything i need for my swap. ill help him by giving him a little business and a little $$. and in return i dont have to... :bang: ..... looking for the parts.

thanks to you and thumper.....
