I posted this in foxbody area with no luck, maybe I can get some help here.
89 GT, T5, 302

I've come across a 460 on a real good deal, before I jump on this I have a few questions. A few things to note.
I can get a bellhousing for $75 with no forks. I'm looking for around 450-500 H.P.

1.) If I purchase a new flywheel/clutch/fork will the bellhousing bolt up to an 89 T5 no problems?
2.) What mods are needed besides obviously motor mounts?
3.)Will the stock lower end be safe on a N/A 450-500 H.P. motor?
4.) Can I easily create 450-500 H.P. out of a 460 with heads/cam?
5.)If the bellhousing does fit for the T5 than I assume the tranny mount will also bolt right up as well? The name slips my mind right now but I just spent $75 for the crossmember that holds the tranny up. (Trans mount maybe)
6.)How much would an exhaust system run?
7.)What would the resale value be if I did this compared to parting a turbo set-up?

What's the expected total cost for all of this. Thanks

Yea I kinda figured the T5 would need a rebuild. New syncros are around $150 for some really good ones and I wouldn't imagine the gears costing more than 300-400, so that would be ok with me.
I'm trying to figure out if the 460 swap would be very cost effective. I'm getting the longblock with accessories in running condition for $100, but if I have to spend another $2000 to up the compression, etc to make it 450-500 RWHP then I may pass...Thanks again.

Check out http://www.g-forcetransmissions.com/default.htm A simple rebuild on your T-5 just nets a rebuilt transmission that's still only good for 300 or so HP. A G-force upgrade costs you $1,100 to get in the door for input shaft and gears, plus whatever rebuild pieces you need. Oh, and don't forget the 26-spline clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, etc, etc, etc... Other options like swapping for a Tremec or Richmond just go up from there. Hate to rain on your parade...:D

well chit. What if I find a junk yard factory 460 trans and bolted it up? All this talk about setting up my drivetrain is giving me a headache lol. What about the rest of the cost? I.E. heads/cam? Will the stock lower end hold 450-500? Assuming of course there isn't much taper.

Here's another really good question. I have cutsody of my son. He's two now. In another 5-6 years I'm going to buy a cobra kitcar. How unusually stupid would it be for me to bolt in the 460 over a 429 seeing as how pre-72 429's are becoming more and more expensive.

1: the T5 wont bolt to a 460 bellhousing without an adaptor. however the T5 wont handle the torque of the 460.

2: larger rad for one, smaller brake booster. there are a couple of other things also, i cant think of them off hand though.

3: 500hp is barely more than 1hp per ci, the stock bottom end of the 460 will handle that all day long with no problem.

4: 500hp from a 460 is very simple to get. a little port work on the exhaust side, the right cam, intake, carb, and headers, and it is hard NOT to make 500hp.

5: for a trans, i recommend either a built AOD from lentech, they have a bellhousing just for this swap, or a built C6. if you really have to have a stick shift, then the tremec 600, or the richmond 4+1 5spd works nice.
