4cyl T-5 to 5.0

I'm building a low buget 5.0 turbocharged thunderbird, my question is, I've heard you can use the T-5 trans from a 4cyl but you have to use a different pilot bearing, has anybody done this and have any part numbers to use to get parts.

i dont exactly remember the part numbers do a search and there should be somthing on there, it will bolt right up. The gearing is different so you have to watch that. Mine has held up for over a year now knock on wood

I haven't found anthing onthe part numbers, do you just use the same pilot bearing that the 2.3 the trans came out of uses.

Someone told me that you should get a pilot bearing for a 85 ford ranger 5 speed and that will work with the v8 and the 4cyl t5. I haven't tried it so I can't guarantee it will work.

Well if the tranny is geared like most 4 cylinders then you would be revving pretty damn high on the highway.

First gear is kinda short on them but the rest of the gears are pretty close to a v-8 transmission. The 4 cyls get their low gears in the axle not the tranny.

i was going to put a 4cyl behind a 351w in my fox, i bought a 85 ranger pilot bearing and t5 v8 bellhousing but winter came and i saved for a toploader and got that instead

a 4-banger t-5 will not live too long behind a turbo 5.0

no doubt but it's a starting point for the setup to do all fitting and what not until money can afford a better trans

vehicle is not going to be a strret car, just a playtoy to start doing my fabwork, it will be a good starting point for low budget, as long as it takes project, and when one weak link brakes upgrade one thing at a time.
so basically the car is just to have fun fabricating my own ideas
