Long time lurker but first time post.

I have a 93 Notch 5.0 that is in need of an alternator upgrade. I have searched til I am blue in the face and have read several threads on the 3g upgrade. My question is about the 4G and 6G versions of said alternator. On the FFI website it states that the 4G came on the 96-2001 5.0 Explorer. Does anyone know if this alternator will fit and/or has actually installed one because I can get one locally cheap. Also, the FFI site states that it is a one wire install.

About the 6G, which vehicles did this alternator come on, what is involved with installation and again, has anyone installed one of these and if so, what did you do?

Any reply is greatly appreciated and I have saved myself a bunch (both money and work) just by referring to this site constantly.

Bump

I to would like to know if a one wire would work. My buddy has a small starter/alternator shop and I can get one for basicly nothing.

So how many volts does that equal anyways? What use do you have for that serious of an alternator? I guess if you've got some serious audio/video hardware or something. I upgraded to a 3g and Optima Yellow top and i couldn't be happier.

It's not so much the AMPs of the alternator. The 6G is supose to be lighter, use less power to turn, and run cooler than previous versions.

I think the 6Gs advantage was not having to gring the Alt Bracket for clearance.
